Defeat Conditions

Zelda flees or the Allied Base falls.

Castle Crashers

Princess Zelda is trapped inside the Palace of Twilight, and she needs your help! Linkle is up to the challenge, and she isn’t alone: Twili Midna is also here to lend the princess a helping hand.

Your first order of business is to capture the East Palace and West Palace Keeps. Twili Midna heads to the East Palace; split up and capture the West Palace with Linkle.

Hard Gold Skulltula Opportunity

To entice the Hard Mode Gold Skulltula to appear, you must gain the ability to enter the Enemy Base before Princess Zelda’s health drops too low. Act fast in capturing keeps—each one you take will weaken Dark Zant, who stands guard over the palace. Defeat Dark Zant and then move Twili Midna close to the Enemy Base’s south door to open it. The Gold Skulltula appears just south of the West Square Keep.

Northern Exposure

Capturing the East and West Palaces opens their northern doors, granting you access to the areas beyond. Head north from the West Palace with Linkle and activate the northwest owl statue. After that, head to the West Square and capture it, defeating the Fortifier Captain that’s attempting to fortify the keep.

Another Fortifier Captain is heading for the North Palace. Command Linkle to head up there after capturing the West Square, then switch to Twili Midna and finish capturing the East Palace. Travel north from the East Palace afterward and defeat the nearby Rally Captain to prevent it from improving the enemy’s morale. Activate the northeast owl statue afterward for good measure.

Linkle should be battling it out in the North Square by now. Command Twili Midna to capture the nearby Upper Level East keep, then switch to Linkle and capture the North Square, defeating the Fortifier Captain in the process. Warp to the northeast owl statue afterward and assist Twili Midna in capturing the Upper Level East Keep.

Piece of Heart Opportunity

Capture the Upper Level East keep to reveal a treasure chest that contains a Piece of Heart for Linkle.

Gold Skulltula Opportunity

The 1,000 KO Gold Skulltula appears just west of the Upper Level East Keep. Capture the keep to open its doors, then go west and bomb a boulder to expose the Gold Skulltula. If you still have a few KOs to go, you can easily return here in the future by warping to the northeast owl statue.

Dark Deception

Gathering evil power, Dark Twili Midna begins to summon Dark Aeralfos to take back her keeps. Dark Aeralfos are extremely powerful, but they draw their power from the keeps’ magic. If you’ve captured and held at least three keeps by now, the Dark Aeralfos should already be substantially weakened, posing far less threat. If necessary, capture at least three keeps to weaken the Dark Aeralfos and prevent Dark Twili Midna from summoning any more of them.

That’s not the only trick Dark Twili Midna has up her sleeve. The wicked princess releases a tide of powerful monsters from the Southwest Square, an enemy keep that had been sealed up to this point. Switch to Twilight Midna and warp to the owl statue near the Allied Base, then hurry west to confront the enemies and capture the Southwest Square. Command Linkle to attack any enemy keep that still stands.

Heart Container Opportunity

After capturing the Southwest Square, bomb the boulder that rests near its north wall to discover a treasure chest. Crack it open to claim a Heart Container for Twili Midna.

Sending a Message

Around this point, a few Messengers emerge from the Allied Base, intent on calling for reinforcements. Warp both characters back to the southern owl statue and escort the Messengers to their destinations. One races off to the nearby Fairy Fountain to the east; the other heads west for the Central Square. Use the Command screen to conduct the escort mission successfully.

Rescuing Zelda

Hurry and capture any remaining enemy keeps to dispel Dark Twili Midna’s magic. With all keeps under your control, you’re now ready to challenge the Enemy Base’s gatekeeper: Dark Zant. Hurry to the Enemy Base, and make sure that Twili Midna joins you, using the Command screen if you like. Defeat Dark Zant as quickly as possible; Zelda can’t last much longer!

Even after you defeat Dark Zant, the palace still won’t open. Only Twili Midna has the power to open its doors! Move Twili Midna close to the palace’s south gate, and it opens, at last letting you confront Dark Twili Midna in the Enemy Base.

There isn’t a moment to lose! Race into the Enemy Base and rescue Zelda. Battle Dark Twili Midna, attacking her from all sides with fury. Don’t relent until the dark princess is dethroned and Princess Zelda is saved!
