Boss Fight: The Great Bird

The Great Bird isn’t as skittish as it was during your first encounter at the Forsaken Fortress. This time, you must actually battle the Helmaroc King in order to make it withdraw. Simply wait for the Great Bird to slam its beak down into the ground, then smack its imbedded head with the Hammer to shatter its helmet.

The impact knocks the Helmaroc King for a loop, and its Weak Point gauge appears. Unleash your most furious combos to pile on the damage before the Great Bird recovers!

Hard Mode Skulltula Opportunity Continued

You can’t get too hung up on hammering the Helmaroc King if you’re hoping to nab the Hard Gold Skulltula. Rescue Tetra, with Link, then switch back to Lana and hurry to close those southern gates. Close them all in under 10 minutes, and the Hard Gold Skulltula materializes just north of the Allied Base. Warp back to the southwest owl statue and grab it while you can!he south.

Keep Fighting

The Helmaroc King flees to the Sacred Grounds after you’ve hacked away half of its health, and additional Keeps suddenly open their doors, unleashing more monsters and granting you access to more of the desert. Defend Tetra from the inbound Lizalfos with Link, and use Lana to intercept the other Lizalfos that advance on your base from the north. Activate the southeast owl statue with Link, as well, and work at closing any Gates of Souls that might still be open.

Closing all seven Gates of Souls causes more Keeps to open, and also grants you control of Tetra. Work at map control now, defeating enemy Captains and capturing nearby Keeps such as the South Oasis. At the same time, battle the army of Aeralfos that advance on your base from the northeast.

Piece of Heart Opportunity

Capturing the S. Desert Keep reveals a treasure chest that contains a Piece of Heart for Lana. Warp her to the southeast owl statue if she’s still fighting up north, and then open the chest.

Heart Container Opportunity

Once you have control of Tetra, you’re able to claim her Heart Container. Warp her to the northwest owl statue, then bomb the boulder in the west nook to find it.

Gold Skulltula Opportunity

As always, keep an eye on your KOs as you beat back the enemy and capture their Keeps. When you reach 1,000 KOs, a Gold Skulltula appears on the Rockface Keep’s exterior south wall.

Nothing’s Sacred

It isn’t long before the Helmaroc King returns, its health fully restored. The Great Bird seems to be healing each time it flees to the Sacred Grounds. You must capture the Sacred Grounds to stop the Helmaroc King from recovering, but it takes time to fight your way up there. Make a steady advance by defeating inbound Captains, capturing nearby Keeps, and driving off the Helmaroc King each time it swoops back into the fray.

The Great Bird’s days are numbered after you’ve captured the Sacred Grounds. With no place left to flee, the Helmaroc King is forced to make a stand. Command all of your allies to join you in the final battle against the Helmaroc King, using the power of teamwork to topple the Great Bird once and for all!
