The strange events and attacks in Hyrule Kingdom began when the Black Witch, Cia, opened the “Gate of Souls.” Unable to suppress the darkness in her heart, Cia summons countless monsters in order to take control of the kingdom of Hyrule.
With the power of the fire dragon Volga and the evil wizard Wizzro under her command, the dark forces led by Cia grow exponentially. As part of the beginning of her attack on Hyrule, Cia orders all fairies to be hunted, as they are a key part of a legend that could disrupt her plans.
It is foretold that a fairy who protects the pure of heart will join forces with the legendary hero. Cia’s minions captured most of the fairies, but they were unable to capture the “strongest of the fairies, who is bathed in holy power.”
Eventually Link and his companions, protected by the power of the fairy, reach the Valley of Seers where Cia lives.
Cia traps them and, using the great power of the Triforce piece she obtained, opens gates leading to different points across time and space and throws the heroes into them.
The Black Witch, Cia, plans to use these new dimensions to further increase her dark power. She can no longer stop herself—even if it means her own demise.
