Masks are the flavor of the week in this map. You use them to root out any hidden enemies, and there are plenty of Scenarios with hidden enemies that need to be revealed before they’re playable. There are also Ocarina Item Cards that help you with the time element of the Termina Map.
Compass
Use this while on the Search screen to identify where an Item Card can be used.
Zora Mask
Use this on whirlpools to reveal enemies.
Deku Stick
Use this on torches to reveal enemies.
Song of Time
Play this on the Search Screen to reset all map squares to their starting state.
Deku Mask
Use this on flowers to jump toward a neighboring square.
Mask of Truth
Use this on the Search Screen to double your defense for one battle.
Bombs
Use this on boulders to uncover hidden staircases.
Inverted Song of Time
Play this on the Search Screen to add 10 hours back to the clock.
Goron Mask
Use this on switches to reveal enemies.
Majora’s Mask
Use this on the Search Screen to fill your Magic and SP gauges for one battle.
Ice Arrow
Use this on circles of flame to uncover hidden stairways.
Termina Map Challenges
You have 72 hours to find four Giant Item Cards across the map and place them in the Clock Town square to stop the moon. If time runs out, the moon will fall and the entire map will reset. Every Scenario will take an hour off of the clock, which means after playing 72 Scenarios the jig is up. Or it would be if there were no tools to assist you through this map.
Time Tools
During your travels across the Termina Map you find owl statues on certain squares. When you complete the Scenario that the statue is on, its wings open up indicating that it has been activated. If the moon falls and resets the map, the owl statue squares remain open and available to you, which means you can continue working through the map from those points. It’s a sort of checkpoint system that helps to keep you from having to truly start the map over from scratch.
The other tools that help you contend with the time element are the Song of Time and Inverted Song of Time Item Cards. Using the Inverted Song of Time on the Search Screen adds another 10 hours to the clock, while the Song of Time pre-emptively restarts the map. Why would you want to do that? Well, if time is running low and you just found an owl statue, you can reset time and continue your progress from that statue, instead of completing a handful of Scenarios and losing all of that work to time running out.
Giant Cards
All in all, your quest to find the Giant Cards won’t be particularly tough if you use our walkthrough. We considered putting the locations of all four Giant Cards here, but decided against it in case you want to find them for yourself. They are listed in the Unlockables text for the level they are actually in, so skim through this section of the guide at your own peril.
