- You can carry up to four grenades of a single type (incendiary, ink, and smoke have a maximum of two grenades) in addition to all other weapons.
- Grenades are automatically slotted to the lower weapon slot, and you access them by pressing Up on the D-Pad.
- Grenades can be blind-tossed, planted as proximity mines, or aimed and thrown with considerable accuracy.
- Grenades are not typically replenished by finding small- or medium-size ammo crates.
Frag Grenades

Frag Grenades are the most lethal of all grenades. These highly explosive grenades are standard issue for COG soldiers. They’re also the grenade of choice for many Locust Grenadiers. Ironically, Locust Grenadiers often represent the best source of grenade refills, as many of them drop a Frag Grenade or two upon dying.
Frag Grenades deliver lethal damage across a ten-yard radius, reducing the need for pinpoint accuracy. That said, you can aim and throw Frag Grenades with tremendous accuracy by holding the Aim Weapon button and moving the targeting reticle. Look for opportunities to bounce the Frag Grenade off a wall or ceiling to hit enemies behind cover. Or try to slide the grenade into position alongside an entrenched foe. As with all grenades, you can also plant the Frag Grenade on a wall or floor by aiming in the direction where you’d like to plant it and pressing the Melee button.
Lastly, you can also “bag and tag” a meatshield. Simply press Up on the D-Pad while you have control of a meatshield. This makes your character grenade-tag the hostage and then kick him forward, ideally into a group of other Locust!

Field Notes
Long Range: You can throw the Frag Grenade a long way. Take your time to aim carefully and let it fly. Make sure none of your targets are armed with a Longshot or Torque Bow, as precise aiming exposes you to enemy fire. Enemies can easily escape an incoming grenade if it’s thrown from afar. Aim for large groups or areas where the enemy can’t easily flee.
Medium Range: Frag Grenades are extremely effective at medium range. You can quick-toss a Frag Grenade into a group without aiming for a multi-kill attack, or you can even blind toss one from behind cover. Refrain from using time to carefully aim the grenade at this range.
Close Range: Avoid using Frag Grenades at close range unless it’s to grenade tag (a.k.a. “Frag Tag”) an enemy, or to plant one in hopes of surprising a pursuer. Either way, be sure to Roadie Run or roll out of the blast radius before it explodes.
Ink Grenades

Rather than release a large explosion, Ink Grenades emit a toxic cloud of ink that rapidly drains health and often leads to a downed state. Once one is downed inside an ink cloud, there’s slim hope of crawling out alive. Ink clouds don’t just drain health; they also blur vision, making them perfect for suppressing an area or trying to buy time to look for ammo or reload a slow weapon. Ink Grenades also stun targets within their range. This is their defining feature, setting them apart from the Incendiary.
Ink Grenades are quite rare during the campaign, though you can find them on a Kantus’s corpse. You can plant Ink Grenades on a wall or floor, but it’s rare for an enemy to stick around long enough to be downed in this manner. Tagging an enemy with an Ink Grenade is far more effective!

Field Notes
Long Range: Ink Grenades tend to scatter enemies or leave some down but not out. The problem with using them from long range is that you may not be able to capitalize on this before they revive one another and regain their health. Furthermore, the ink cloud obscures your vision, making it very difficult to hit enemies that may be downed inside or beyond the cloud.
Medium Range: If you want to use an Ink Grenade, this is the range from which to do so. Throw them directly at or slightly in front of enemies so they continue their path straight into the ink cloud. Open fire at the cloud, aiming low to finish off any downed foes.
Close Range: Does deploying a noxious cloud of poisonous, vision-obscuring ink at close range sound like a good idea? No, we didn’t think so either.
Incendiary Grenades
Weapon Stats
| Magazine Size | Max Ammo | Rate of Fire | Reload Speed |

This new addition to the COG arsenal packs the Frag Grenade’s instant lethality into a much smaller area of effect. Incendiary Grenades burst open on contact and spill flames across a fairly wide area. Though the flames continue to drain health from all those inside them, their damage is guaranteed to be lethal only if they make direct contact with a target.
Incendiary Grenades provide an excellent means to quickly weaken multiple foes. Fire into the flames with your assault rifle or pistol to finish off the dying enemies. Incendiary Grenades are also an excellent way to flush enemies out of cover or to force foes along a particular path.

Field Notes
Long Range: Refrain from using Incendiary Grenades at long range unless you’re sure to hit your target, or you’re aiming at a group of slow-moving enemies. Incendiary Grenades require more accuracy than Frag Grenades, so save them until you’re close to your target.
Medium Range: Use Incendiary Grenades at medium range for best results. This distance keeps you safe from the flames, makes it easier to hit your target on the fly, and puts you in better position to pick off burning enemies as they run screaming from cover!
Close Range: As with Ink Grenades, we can’t recommend using Incendiary Grenades at close range, unless you’re planting one in the back of a meatshield or blind tossing from behind cover. Instead, back away from your pursuers before you toss it. Better still, try to lure them around a corner where you can safely plant the grenade and get away.
