GORGON SMG
> An automatic submachine gun, the Gorgon has impressive stopping power for a sidearm. It also has solid accuracy at short distances.
Weapon Profile
The Gorgon is very useful if you can get it without going out of your way. It’s genuinely effective at short distance. The Gorgon also has noticeable stopping power, as it’s a fully automatic weapon with a good rate of fire. It also has reasonable accuracy when you hipfire it, if you need to stay mobile. If you’re carrying a Hammerburst, this makes the Gorgon a good secondary weapon, as you can use it as a makeshift ‘assault rifle.’ The Gorgon is also a nice sidearm for meatshielding, as it’s quite useful for fending off nearby enemies.
In comparison to the Snub or Boltok, the Gorgon lacks the accuracy necessary to take down targets at a distance. Instead, use its stopping power and good rate of fire to protect yourself when you have slow-firing main weapons.
Grenades are rare and powerful special explosives. Each player begins with a single Smoke Grenade. You must acquire all others from pickups on the level. You can ‘tag’ any grenade type onto walls or targets by tapping the B Button when you’re near one of these objects. Sticking a wall creates a booby trap, while sticking an enemy initiates detonation just a moment later.
Grenades are useful for zoning off an area with ‘tripwires,’ flushing out entrenched enemies, guarding power weapons, covering an approach, and clearing out crowds. Each type works differently and has varying strengths in the preceding roles.
Frag Grenade
> The Frag is a powerful and lethal explosive grenade.
Weapon Profile
The Frag is the most downright devastating grenade type…it has a very large and very lethal blast radius. Tossing a Frag into any crowded room is guaranteed to net you several kills, making it ideal for flushing enemies out of defensive positions. They’re also instantly lethal if you tag enemies with it. But be careful; if they decide to shadow when they notice the tag, you can get taken out by your own grenade!
The Frag makes a very useful tripwire grenade. Tag it at a heavily trafficked hallway’s entrance to score easy kills. Or plant it directly on a power weapon spawn point. In a busy area, well-placed Frag plants can take out a lot of enemies who aren’t cautious about their movement. Frag tags can kill teammates, so be careful about where and how you use them.
When you throw a Frag, you don’t necessarily have to aim the toss if you’re simply throwing it into a nearby melee. Just blindfire the throw. On the other hand, aim if you’re going for a long-distance throw into an enemy position. However, be aware that you may expose yourself to enemy fire in the processs.
Because you get two Frags per pickup, you can exploit them against an enemy that’s aware of your presence at short range. Toss the first Frag to make the foe roll. Then quickly toss the second in the direction of his evasive move. He can’t dodge both blasts, as the first explosion detonates the second Frag, killing him instantly!
Weapon Profile
The Incendiary Grenade has two powerful uses. Firstly, a direct hit is instantly lethal. Secondly, once an Incendiary detonates, it coats the immediate area with flames that burn any enemy within them over time. This makes the Incendiary ideal for forcing enemies off a specific area…say, a King of the Hill point, a power weapon, or a hallway chokepoint. They are also very useful for forcing someone out of cover. Even if you miss the lethal insta-kill, foes must vacate the flames or die from burning damage.
Incendiaries that contact a bit of cover actually spread across the top of the cover, although this is rarely an important factor in a fight. Similarly, if they impact a ceiling, they ‘drip’ liquid flames down on targets below. Again, this is cooler looking than it is effective.
Thanks to their lethal one-hit nature, Incendiaries are especially deadly if you toss them blindfire at short range. With practice, you can almost always take out your targets before they can evade, especially if they’re unaware of your presence while you lie in wait.
Incendiaries are not especially useful as proximity explosives. The explosion isn’t instantly lethal, and the resulting flames may cause significant damage but are rarely fatal. You can still use them as an alert system, of course. But don’t expect as many outright kills as you would get with a Frag. If you do set one up, try to get into cover where you can quickly finish off the damaged target with weapon fire, or have a teammate cover the planted grenade.
Incendiary Grenade
> The Incendiary Grenade is an explosive that’s loaded with liquid flame.
Ink Grenade
> Ink Grenades create a cloud of choking toxic vapors.
Weapon Profile
Ink Grenades are similar to Incendiaries in that they create an area of effect that deals damage over time. However, they differ in that they are not instantly lethal on contact. In exchange, Ink Grenades cause a very long cringe time. If you can catch a group of enemies in an ink explosion, the combination of the cringe and the damage over time can let your team mop up the group with ease.
The ink also causes a blinding, darkening haze to afflict any enemies caught inside the blast zone, making the disorientation even more intense. Unlike Smoke Grenades, players can spot through Ink Grenade clouds. That is, your reticle turns red on enemies and you can mark targets through the cloud.
Also unlike Incendiaries, Ink Grenades bounce off walls. You can use this to get an Ink into a defended position more easily than an Incendiary. Coordinate with your team to rush the position as the grenade detonates, so they can exploit the cringe time. Ink Grenades are useful for clearing enemies out of cover the same as Incendiary Grenades, and they are similarly ineffective as proximity bombs.
Smoke Grenade
> Smoke Grenades are defensive tools that create an obscuring cloud of smoke.
Weapon Profile
Smoke Grenades are the starting grenade type for all players. Each multiplayer combatant begins with a single Smoke Grenade. Occasionally, Smoke Grenade pickups appear on certain map weapon cycles.
Smoke Grenades are extremely useful, but they are not lethal weapons. Their primary purpose is tactical, not damaging. In rare circumstances and only when a Smoke Grenade is tagged to a target, can the target be downed. A Smoke Grenade explosion creates an impenetrable cloud of smoke with a ton of useful effects:
- Players cannot spot though it…target marking and red reticle activation are blocked.
- It blocks line of sight.
- The detonation causes light cringing on targets near the blast.
- The detonation can detonate other grenades.
- It destroys meatshields and releases held Leaders.
You can also use smoke as an effective early warning system. It won’t kill or heavily damage intruders, but it should give you time to get into position to fight anyone trying to flank you!
As we mentioned, Smoke Grenades block red reticule LOS activation, preventing you from ‘spotting’ targets through smoke. So, keep firing if you know you have a target lined up, or if you’re suppressing a chokepoint! You can use Smoke Grenades effectively to cover a charge by your team or a suicide charge with a Sawed-Off Shotgun or bayonet.
