The key from Prescott worked as advertised, decoding the data in Hoffman’s possession. And now the squad knows precisely the extent of the secrets the government kept from them. An island hideaway, artificial hurricane, kidnapped scientists…it seems no idea was too farfetched when it came time to save the elite. Now there’s reason to believe that Adam Fenix isn’t just alive, but that he might also have a way to eradicate the Lambent. Marcus and the others must reach Azura to see if Adam is still alive. The only way to do that is to go under the Maelstrom. They need to commandeer a submarine from the Endeavour shipyard. First they must get some fuel.
Road to Mercy
Escort the Fuel Truck to Mercy
The submarine needs plenty of fuel, so the decision is made to travel to the town of Mercy, a former Imulsion refining center. The squad splits up into three trucks. Dizzy takes the wheel of the fuel truck, Dom and Sam climb aboard a pickup driven by a Stranded, and Marcus and Anya board a similar vehicle driven by Jace. Cole and Baird stay behind to amass reinforcements for the battle to come.
Fend off the Reavers
The road to Mercy is littered with the husks of burned-out vehicles and debris. It’s also home to a number of Reavers that not only attack while in flight, but also land in the middle of the road to block traffic. Crashing into a Reaver spells the end of the journey—you must shoot them with the Vulcan before the truck Marcus is in crashes into the Reaver.
Use the Vulcan to defend the trucks on the road. Jace’s driving is erratic, so try to steady your aim as best you can. Most importantly, you must destroy the Reavers that land on the road. Focus all forward fire on the Reavers in the road, and call out their locations to your co-op partners, if applicable.
Destroy the Imulsion Pipelines
Jace has no choice but to lead the convoy off road and into the Imulsion fields where the pipelines are. The Imulsion has long since stopped flowing, leaving the pipes filled with little more than vapor. Train your Vulcan on each of the pipes, blasting a gap into each one through which the trucks can pass. The pipes are pretty resilient, so don’t wait too long to fire at them, and keep the gun going.
There are three pipes, and its game over if you crash into any of them. You have support fire from the other truck, but you really need to inflict most of the damage on your own.
Fend off the Corpser Hatchlings
The road ahead is crawling with an army of Baby Corpsers. The truck can run over some of them, but others leap onto the front of the truck to attack Marcus and Anya. Open fire with the Vulcan at the ones on the road (aim from the hip), and blast any that grab the truck.
Wherever you find Baby Corpsers, you can be sure a Corpser Mother isn’t far away. It leaps down and blocks the road up ahead. Open fire for fun if you wish, but know that you can’t kill her. You just drive around her, but shooting her certainly makes for a dramatic moment.
Continue the drive along the road, firing at the Hatchlings. A Corpser with armor-plated legs leaps onto the hood and deflects your shots. As with the Corpser Mother, you can’t kill it—shooting it does little more than increase the drama. It’s up to Jace to shake it free with a few quick jerks of the steering wheel.
Defend the Trucks
The trucks head into Concord Air Base and out onto the runway. The Locust have set up many, many roadblocks here, including some that contain multiple Troikas. Aim at the fuel cells and detonate the road blocks and Troikas to reduce the amount of fire you take.
Focus on the road’s left-hand side first. Then shift your aim to the right, especially when you get to the runway, where multiple pillboxes are set up with barbed wire crossing the road. The Troikas gun you down if you don’t at least destroy the one on the left as soon as you can target it. Try to target the closest enemies first, so they can’t get a bead on you as you drive past.
The trucks overshoot the runway and end up briefly stuck in sand. A squad of Savage Drones and Reavers quickly surrounds the trapped vehicles. Decimate the ones on the ground as they appear. Then focus on the Locust atop the rocks to the left, particularly the Reavers. Next, sweep the Vulcan across to the rocks on the right. A final wave of Drones launches into the air from beneath the sand. Continue to fire the Vulcan while Jace backs up the truck and gets it going again.
The convoy makes its way back onto the road leading out the airport’s other side. The final attack is also the most difficult. Focus fire on the left-hand fuel cells first. Then quickly pan right and take out the cells there. Destroying the Troika on the left as quickly as possible is critical, especially on Hardcore and Insane difficulty modes. Otherwise, you run a high risk of being gunned down.
The Brumak that moves into position beyond the final roadblock looks to have the trucks cornered, but don’t worry about it. Fire at the Brumak if you wish, but Jace and the Stranded run the ramps beside it, slicing off its head en route to Mercy.
