Versus
The ruined streets of a battered city make for an impressive battleground, as the city itself sinks into the ground while you fight! Two very powerful heavy weapons are on this level. Both the Mortar and the Hammer of Dawn share a spawn point in a narrow alley on the level’s east side—be sure to secure that area.
The map’s center is a very elevated position with overwatch on the streets to both the north and south. You can expect one team to try to seize the upper ground and then rain fire on the team stuck on the streets. If you get stuck on the street level, you can use the grenades that spawn in the corner buildings. Or, if it’s active, you can use the Boltok to help push back to the upper level.
This is the lone Versus map that has a turret: it’s on the northern overpass that overlooks the northern street. The turret doesn’t have a great arc of fire, and you’re vulnerable to shots from either side as well as below. So, it’s more of a novelty than a serious strategic point. But it can make life difficult for anyone trying to assault the upper level from the northern steps.
Horde
Command Post Center, Turret
One of the stronger defensive positions in Horde, this elevated site has two turrets, a sentry, and a handful of walls. With its excellent coverage, you can easily cut down approaching Horde forces as they run up the stairs from the north and south. This point’s only downside is that if enemies, or bosses in particular, get up top, your avenues of escape are likely to be covered by the enemy, making a fallback unlikely to succeed.
Command Post Southwest, Steps
One turret, one sentry, and one decoy are at this Command Post. The decoy is oddly placed, far to the southeast. It draws fire easily, but it’s so far from the Command Post that it’s likely to be destroyed every round unless a player or two is dedicated solely to defending that area. If you employ this method, be sure the turret is manned to dispatch threats from the north. This position is somewhat better than the northwest office Command Post. The cover is slightly stronger and the lanes of fire are a little friendlier to your team.
Be wary of enemies spawning inside the subway spawn point. Position someone there at the start of the round to prevent this from happening.
Command Post Southeast, Subway
One turret and a single sentry are your only defensive tools, but this position is fairly defensible. The turret covers the alley approach, while the street has good cover. A nice overhang by the ammo crate protects you from the occasional enemy spawning above you.
Command Post Northeast, Ruins
This post has two turrets, a single sentry, and a well-placed, centrally located decoy. Because of its position, you have solid cover from enemies approaching through the southern alleyway. Also, you don’t need to worry about enemies attacking you from above with the same frequency as the Office Command Post. Set up the turrets and the decoy first. Then put up the sentry and key walls to aid in your defenses. Be sure to exploit the nearby Mortar and Hammer of Dawn weapon spawn.
Command Post Northwest, Office
A somewhat poor defensive post, this position has a pair of sentries and a single turret, along with a plethora of walls. Unfortunately, it’s located on the street level in the northwest. Consequently, you must often defend against Locust forces with an elevation advantage coming from the larger central building and the upper overpass area. Try to use the available cover and communicate threats incoming from different angles to avoid getting hit by a Grinder from behind.
Beast
Most of the locations here provide ample cover for you to approach the COG forces. However, several positions require you to cross barriers that you must destroy in order to pass.
For the COG bases at the street positions, you can easily fire down on the COG troops by heading up to the overpass. just remember that you have to execute or detonate the Heroes once they start to appear. You can’t down them simply by firing from a distance with a Drone. Use a Mauler to destroy the impassable walls. The Beasts that can mantle can bypass many of them on the streets.
