Corpser Mother
The gargantuan Corpser Mother towers from floor to ceiling. If she gets the chance, she’ll bring the roof down on the Gears. The squad has no choice but to kill her before they get trampled and fed to her hungry brood.
You must destroy the Corpser Mother’s four eyes. It takes multiple hits to rupture a single eye, and each rupture acts as a critical hit that initiates a shift in the action. Wait for its legs to spread—it usually raises them one by one to pound the ground and shake rocks from the roof. Stand back and use your assault rifle of choice. Given the target’s size and distance, the Hammerburst and Lancer are best, but the Retro Lancer can also do the job.
The Corpser Mother goes into a writhing rampage each time it loses an eye. It streaks across the cavern in an attempt to trample the Gears. She then summons two juvenile Corpsers to attack. Switch to the Boomshot you picked up earlier and blast the lesser Corpsers. On Hardcore difficulty and below, a single Boomshot rocket or Frag Grenade can defeat one of these juvenile Corpsers. Corpser Hatchlings continue to attack throughout the battle, but they are easy to defeat with your assault rifle—don’t waste explosives on them!
The Corpser Mother resumes her standard attacks as soon as you defeat the two regular Corpsers. Pop another eye while you dodge attacks from the Corpser Mother and stray Hatchlings. This sends her on another rampage during which she again calls on two lesser Corpsers to attack in her stead. Use the remaining Boomshot ammo or two more Frag Grenades on the Corpsers that attack.
Mama Corpser gets a bit more intense now, and she can be harder to attack. Dodge its charges and leg strikes, and continue to pepper its eyes with bullets. She provides less of a target than in earlier phases of the battle. The Corpser Mother jabs a quick series of strikes outward with one leg at a time. Stand back and look for an opening to target her remaining eyes.
Once you pop the third eye, three juvenile Corpsers attack. Use any heavy firepower you have left to gun them down. Fortunately, they often go for your squad mates, allowing you to pummel them with flanking fire.
The Mama Corpser goes crazy once you reduce her to a single eye. Pop the last eye to send it into a blind rage. It speeds through the area, rattling the roof and trying to trample all of Delta Squad. If everyone gets downed, it’s game over, but only player-controlled characters need to escape. You have 25 seconds to reach the gate on the cavern’s far side! Sprint for the exit to continue pursuing the Gas Barge.
