Versus
A classic makes its return. The burned out remnants of a street and a few ruined buildings make up this battlefield. With power weapons spawns in the northern boardwalk building and beneath the bell tower to the south, you must choose which area to contest at the beginning of each round.
If possible, avoid moving in the street without covering fire. You’re exposed to enemies in any of the surrounding buildings, though there’s ample cover among the ruined cars if you can move quickly. Practice your cover sliding and bouncing—you can traverse the streets here extremely quickly with practice.
Horde
Command Post Northeast, Freeway Spawn
Two turrets and a decoy make this an excellent defensive position. The turrets can help you mow down almost any Horde forces that approach the base. The sentry gun here isn’t especially useful, as the wrecked cars block most of its line of sight. Stay mobile—you can use the elevated areas to provide cover for the street. You don’t need to stay in the street; just keep the turrets manned and protect the decoy.
Command Post Southeast, Restaurant
A rear turret provides good fallback coverage, but this position’s real strength is the elevation that the restaurant building itself provides. Position at least two players in this upper area, and they have great line of sight to the street for marking—and killing—targets.
The decoy on the street level works well in concert with the turret and the nearby walls. They distract incoming Locust long enough to mow them down either from the overwatch in the restaurant, or with the fallback turret. This is a very nice defensive position. Give it a try when you make a serious run on this map.
Command Post Center, Boardwalk
This is the toughest defensive position on this map. Don’t take this Command Post unless you want a tough fight. A turret is at the base of the east steps, and a sentry is on the west, but both have line of sight issues. The cramped interior up the stairs makes a very bad place to get stuck if enemies intrude. On top of that, the line of sight from inside the Command Post is limited. This means you need to take up positions in the streets to eliminate incoming forces before they get too close to the Command Post itself.
Command Post West, Street
This street-level position has a turret, a decoy, and a sentry all in close proximity to one another. The seemingly oddly placed rear walls are occasionally useful, as enemy forces can appear at the rear spawn, behind your position if you concentrate on the east—be sure to check back there occasionally.
As with the normal bank position, be sure to keep a few players up in the bank itself to provide overwatch on the center of the street. You don’t want enemy forces to get up into the building and come down the stairs toward the turret and sentry while you’re being pushed from the east at the same time.
Command Post Southwest, Bank
Double turrets here, but the western turret is in the bank’s stairwell, giving it very limited line of sight. The right street turret is more effective. But without a decoy, it tends to come under much heavier fire. Try to support the street-level turret with good overwatch from above, and save the western turret for last-minute rushes. Don’t try to upgrade all of the walls. You’re unlikely to keep them all standing until your other defenses are well established.
Beast
The distance from your starting spawns to the COG bases is a hike. When the round starts, start running immediately—you need to engage as quickly as possible. Avoid suicidal tactics on this map if possible. The long walk can run down the timer for your team. The wrecked cars provide abundant cover. If you’re playing a support Beast, take advantage of it. The Serapede in particular can easily hide its tail behind cars.
The Kantus shines on this map, as there is plenty of cover. This makes it easy to heal your team safely. The Ink grenades are very effective at dispatching targets in the small rooms or behind cars. You probably won’t need Wild Tickers in the early rounds; there are plenty of ways around the defenses. The Mauler can deal a lot of damage here. Its flail can smash through cars to damage enemies on the other side. The Mauler can also inflict a lot of damage on this map. Its ability to bypass cover lets you smash COG forces on the other side of cars.
