This researcher is really not the brightest, going into an area like this without proper safety measures. The Titan lies just beyond the save point in the second area. Take it on and save the researcher from his research subject.
Once you defeat it, you’ll have rescued the researcher, but the poor guy is terrified and just runs away. Luckily, in his haste to flee he drops the Iris Gem you were after. Collect your prize and exit the woods for a short scene between Sorey, Mikleo, and Rose.
