Tales of Zestiria eGuide Walkthrough Part 1: The Path of the Shepherd

Rayfalke Spiritcrest

Griflet Bridge

Shop, eat, etc if you wish. Then, head to the Griflet Bridge. You can’t fast travel there right now since the save point is greyed out in the menu, so you’ll have to travel on foot.

Approach the star in the Falkewin Hillside to see that no work has been done on the bridge yet. Alisha takes off to investigate. At the save point, the skit: Fixing the Bridge, becomes available. Head over to speak with the old man staring out at the river with a star above him. His name is Neif, a representative from Marlind. He’s trying to get medical supplies back to Marlind, but the bridge is out. He asks Sorey to take the medicine over, but Lailah stops Sorey from agreeing. Neif apologizes for treating a Shepherd as a messenger, and thanks him and the seraphim. Sorey tells the man that he’ll search for a solution. They decide to search for an earth seraph who can help them build a strong foundation for the bridge—they’ve been trying to fix it but the foundations for the columns keep getting washed away. Lailah mentions that an earth seraph is said to live on the Rayfalke Spiritcrest.

Speak to Alisha and Sorey will tell her the plan. Alisha decides to stay at the bridge to help those there. Sorey and Mikleo tell her to leave the rest to them, but as they finish talking, Neif approaches and warns them not to go to Spiritcrest because there is a legend of a dragon who lives there. They discuss the legend of the Eight Serpents, dragons who betrayed the seraphim. Sorey says they need to go, regardless, and thanks Neif for his advice.

Save if you wish, then head up the hill.

At the base of the Spiritcrest, immediately look to the right and pick up some Sage. Activate the save point and save if you wish. You can also view a skit: The Spiritcrest, the Dragon’s Lair. Check the Monolith, and then proceed up the hill to the star.

A Mountain Troll awaits. Fuse with Mikleo and captialize on the troll’s weakness to artes by attacking from long range, safe from the troll’s heavy club swings. After some ineffective hits, a newcomer appears.

Enter: Zaveid and his spirit-shooting gun. He shoots himself in the head with it and a swell of wind magic power suddenly engulfs him. He shows off with a mystic arte, and then shoots the troll to kill it. Sorey, Mikleo, and Lailah are appalled that he killed the hellion. Zaveid approaches the now human body saying that death is a salvation too, for some. He tells Sorey that if he wants to save people, he’d better get powerful enough to win against strong hellions like the troll. He teases them and warns them about the dragon, saying that if they’re not careful they’ll be killed and eaten. He’s surprised to hear that they haven’t come to kill the dragon—apparently that is Zaveid’s goal, although he decides that he’s not ready to battle it yet. Instead, he’s going to test Sorey.

Be careful—Zaveid’s fast attacks can stun. If he gets in range to attack, block or dodge with a quickstep. Armatize and lay into him until a cutscene interrupts. He backs off, and Lailah agrees that there’s no reason for seraphs to fight each other. Zaveid takes off, telling Sorey to confirm the dragon’s existence with his own eyes if he wants to know.

To the left, you can pick up Chamomile. You can choose to approach the dead body that was the troll, or leave it there. If you approach it, Sorey will bury it and put a grave marker with stones over it. If you don’t, you’ll bury it later on your way down the mountain.

Continue up the mountain until another cutscene triggers. One of the Scattered Bones assassins appears and challenges Sorey, attempting to confirm if he’s the real deal or not. A few barrages of artes will end the battle quickly. As Sorey approaches him, a dagger is thrown at his feet, warning him away. Another assassin appears with a wind arte to collect her companion.

Head up the mountain and take the left branch to collect Saffron. Return to the main path and examine the shrine for a cutscene, and then check it afterward for a Discovery Point: “Rayfalke Shrine”, and a skit: The Small Shrine with Flowers.

Continue up the path, ignoring the right branch. Around the curve, stop at the Monolith on the right to learn about Switching Seraphim. Continue your climb and activate the save point. Use it if you wish, and check out the skit: “The Mysterious Seraph”. Keep going until you reach the star.

Suddenly, a strong domain appears. Lailah suggests they flee, but before they can, a dragon appears. Lailah wasn’t sure if the legend was true, since a dragon did not live on the mountain wasn't a dragon there the last time she travelled there. Distressed, she calls out to it, asking if it is Edna, but a voice behind her says it’s not.

Enter: Edna! She causes a large boulder to block the dragon’s path to the group, and calls the dragon “brother”. The dragon breaks through, and Edna tells them to run. Don’t bother trying to win the battle, just choose the Escape/Flee option and get the hell out of dodge.

Lailah embraces Edna happily, and Edna asks Sorey what he needs her for. Sorey asks her to lend her power to help rebuild the bridge. She refuses, saying she hates humans and that she can’t leave her brother, Eizen, alone. Lailah explains that there’s no known way to purify a dragon; you can only kill it. Sorey encourages Edna to move away from the mountain at least, for her safety, but she takes off.

Take a moment to check the Monolith to the right if you haven't already. Head down the path to see Edna staring at the grave Sorey dug. If you didn’t dig the grave, you do so now and Edna approaches when it’s done. She’s moved, and after Sorey offers to help her search for a way to save Eizen, she finally relents and agrees to join the party. She makes the Sub Lord contract with Lailah, saying she hates humans, but not Sorey. However, he must promise to help her find a way to save Eizen. She also pulls out a Divine Artifact (gauntlet) and hands it over.

Head down the mountain to trigger a skit. Seems like Edna’s going to keep the party pretty lively with her deadpan humor and merciless teasing.

The leader of the assassins’ guild appears.

Lailah recognizes Dezel and mentions that he used to run with a mercenary group; she’s surprised he’s with a group of assassins now.

Defeat her in battle, or escape from the fray?
  • If you defeat her, the wind seraph, Dezel, appears and spirits her safely away.
  • If you flee, or are defeated, she collapses due to a negative impact from her makeshift bond with Dezel, a wind seraph who suddenly materializes and spirits her safely away.

Continue onward to the next star once you are ready to leave this area behind for a while—once you progress the storyline at the bridge, you will be unable to return across the river until bridge repairs have been started. Speak with Neif, who will leave to call Alisha over. While he’s doing so, you have a choice to make:

Will Sorey use his Shepherd powers in full view of all the onlookers?

If you choose to get started right away, most of the onlookers will be terrified at the display of inexplicable power.

Will he wait for the cover of night to create the new foundation for the bridge?

If you choose to wait until midnight, only Alisha and Neif will witness the feat as it’s being done.

Either way, Neif will tactfully handle the situation, demonstrating a refreshing depth of understanding and gratitude, and offer to take on the task of overseeing bridge repairs so that Alisha can accompany Sorey to Marlind right away. He also gives Sorey a small amount of medicine, and earnestly professes his thanks multiple times.
