Protect the Plane

Your revolution won’t last very long if the plane gets shot down, so the first priority is to defend the plane from surface-to-air-missiles. Rico has a rocket launcher, so he can do serious damage against anything on the ground below.

Look at the ground while scanning the area for missile batteries. These are highlighted by white boxes, and the word “Destroy” appears above them. You couldn’t ask for a better invitation!

Fire at the batteries as soon as you have a good shot lined up. Ammo is not a problem, so you don’t have to conserve anything. Just try not to miss, because reloading takes a few moments.

Your flight isn’t too dangerous as long as you keep detonating the batteries below. Look at the scenery and start getting a feel for the terrain. It’s possible to pause the game by going into the menu, and that’s where you can look at the map. Start getting your bearings now if you like.

The SAMs are going to be in front of the plane, so keep your eyes primarily focused on wherever the plane is turning.

After a couple of minutes, an enemy jet shows up. You can’t do much about this, and the plane takes some major hits. Rico is thrown off into the night sky, and soon begins plummeting toward the ground.

Land in the Cave

A new goal appears underneath Rico. There’s a cave down there that you should try to land in. Wait for a “Parachute” icon to pop up, and then press the button before you meet the ground in an unfriendly fashion. Direct Rico toward the cave, and float down toward your objective.

Settle onto the cave floor as safely as you can.

Reach Mario

Your buddy Mario is close by. He calls for help, and you should head toward him soon. Look on the ground for a rocket launcher, and then pick one up when you find it. Mario is higher up, and there isn’t an easy way up the cave wall. At least, there wouldn’t be for most people.

Try out your grappling hook. Pull Rico to the top of the cave, toward the yellow objective marker. Mario is up there, but enemy militia are all over the place. Help Mario take them out!

If you take too long to do this, Mario loses a ton of health. You can see his health in a yellow bar at the top of the screen, so that lets you know how aggressive to fight. If it starts getting too low, wade into the enemies with reckless abandon to make sure your buddy doesn’t get killed.

Rico and Mario are reunited. When a short cutscene finishes, get into the nearby truck and drive Mario to the rebels.

Drive the Truck to the Rebels

The route to the next objective takes you south and then east. Practice your driving along the way. It’s not too dangerous for now, so try out the brakes, turning with the hand brake, and just get used to everything.

A few minutes down the road, you come across a militia checkpoint. Drive right through it, and run over a few enemies while you’re there. Keep barreling down the road. Mario covers you while riding shotgun, so that helps to fend off any of the militia that try to follow.

He also explains the changes that have taken place in Medici while you’ve been gone. When you get to the objective, it’s time to fight.

Defeat the Soldiers

Blazing through that checkpoint had one downside: the soldiers spotted you. This builds up Heat, and your enemies won’t stop going after you if you have too much of it. Stop at the objective and kill all of the enemy militia troops.

One way to go about this is to hop into a disabled tank close by. Zip onto the top of the tank and use the indicated button to jump inside.

Use both the primary and secondary guns on the tank to clear the surrounding enemies. You’re fairly safe inside the tank, because your opponents don’t have too much heavy weaponry here.

Take out all of the militia targets, and then watch a short cutscene. A helicopter lands, and Rico is asked to hop inside. Get to the chopper and fly toward your new objective. It’s northeast of the Baia border, if you take a quick look at your map.

Reach Dimah’s Hideout and Defeat the Soldiers

Fly to the yellow marker and listen to a road report along the way. You can land the helicopter inside the rebel base, or simply parachute out once you’re above it and float to the ground. Just try not to let the chopper land on you!

There are two groups of combatants at the site. You may have noticed the people in blue earlier; those are rebels. Don’t attack them because they’re on your side! The guys in red are loyal to the general. Kill them on sight, because that’s exactly what they’re trying to do to you and your allies.

You don’t have any tanks this time, so be a bit more careful during the firefight. Aim for headshots against the enemy troops when you’re using your assault rifle, and try out grenades to damage their jeeps or anything that they try to hide behind.

If you start taking too much damage, the screen becomes red around the edges. Back off from the fighting, take cover, and let Rico rest for a moment to get your health back.

There’s a tower with a minigun in this compound. Grapple to the top (where an objective marker appears), and then use the indicated button to grab the weapon. Aim toward the dirt road that leads into the base, and vaporize anything that tries to drive toward the rebels.

Some of the targets are going to come from the side, so watch out for any movement. Keep your gun focused on vehicles until they explode, and enjoy the rising Chaos.

The most important target to take out quickly is a helicopter that flies into the area. Focus your full attention on that until it goes down, and then get back to the troops below.

Kill everything you can and relax once a cutscene starts.

The coast is clear for a moment. Dimah calls you on the radio, and again she mentions that your grappler could use a bit of an upgrade. Why not, right?

She’s still close by. Follow the marker toward a building at the edge of the compound. Start your next story mission there.
