Just Cause 3 eGuide Basics

Movement

Standard movement is done by moving the Left Stick. There is no sprinting, but this isn’t a problem when you have a tether and a parachute.

Tethering

Tap L1/LT to grab the wall, ground, or object in front of you and rapidly pull yourself toward it. If you haven’t pulled your parachute or activated your wingsuit, you’ll be attached to the object via the grapple.

Wingsuit

The wingsuit allows you to fly across the map at high speeds. Activate it by pressing Triangle/Y while you’re in the air.

You can adjust your pitch and yaw while in Wingsuit mode by using the Left Stick. Getting low to the ground before pulling up allows you to best maintain your speed. Staying low to the ground is risky since hitting a building or tree puts you in a near-death state instantly.

The tether can be used while in your wingsuit. Press L1/LT to grab the object in front of you, causing you to sling shot past it even faster than before. Using this tether method, you can keep yourself in the air indefinitely—unless you hit an object, of course!

Parachute

The parachute is a life saver, allowing you to avoid death in its multiple forms.

When falling from the sky, activate the parachute by pressing X/A, then control your descent with the Left Stick.

If you’re in a vehicle that’s heading for an explosive end, hold X/A to deploy your parachute from inside, immediately ejecting you from the vehicle.

While parachuting, you can use your tether on the ground or another object to pull yourself forward. Aiming directly in front of you grants the most speed when pulling yourself toward the tether point. Rico automatically lets go as you move past the spot you tethered.

Find yourself about to smack into a wall while you have your wingsuit activated? Quickly activate your parachute to soften the blow.

Vehicles

Vehicles provide a varying degree of transportation around the world. Mixing vehicles with your parachute, tether, and wingsuit allows you to traverse the world quickly.

Airplanes

While airplanes are the fastest way to travel around, they are also just a one-way ticket unless you’re planning on landing them at an airport. If you’re bringing a plane to an outpost, slam it down into one of the larger objects that you need to destroy to start the attack while you safely parachute in.

Land Vehicles

Cars are everywhere in a variety of types. You’ll find anything from a Vespa to a fully loaded tank with Bavarium Powered armor. Remember when you jump out of a moving car, it is likely to explode on the next object it hits, so if you want to keep it park it somewhere safe.

If you’re driving a car on the road with a waypoint set, arrows appear on the road showing the way to the objective you have marked. These directions only use main roads, so a more direct path may be possible.

Helicopters

While helicopters are slower than planes, they allow you to land almost anywhere and they’re incredibly easy to use in combat.

Military Helicopters can make short work of any outpost, just beware of the AA that lines bigger bases. Either hack the AA systems or use the outpost maps to locate the Anti-Air rockets and destroy them before they destroy you.

Boats

Stranded between Islas? Tether onto somebody’s boat and drive yourself to shore. Jet Skis make for quick travel from Isla to Isla, but they are incredibly vulnerable to attack, which makes them a poor option if you’re surrounded by enemies.

Only one military boat allows Rico to operate the gun and drive: the Rebel Corvette.
