Liberation Challenges

Police Stations

Towns contain police stations, and taking control of one is a challenge within itself. Before you can completely liberate a town, you must first flatten the police station. This requires the completion of at least two objectives. In all police stations you must raise a Havoc Meter to 100% and open a gate (or gates) to allow the Rebel resistance to enter, assist, and take control.

Calling in Rebels

To call in Rebels, open each gate in a police station (some police stations have multiple entrance gates). Raising the gate is typically done by pushing the gate button near the gate. Or you can tether the lowered gate to the top gate frame and reel in to force the gate open. Even if you release the tether afterward, the gate remains open. The button is often quicker, but if there are heavy forces around the gate, it might be safer to tether the gate open from the safety of a nearby rooftop or anywhere the enemy is not.

Filling the Havoc Meter

The other challenge involved in liberating a police station is to cause so much havoc that you fill the Havoc Meter. These challenges do not activate until you fly over or are on the police station grounds. Havoc caused outside the police station does not fill the Havoc Meter. In order to cause havoc, you must blow stuff up. Blowing up the military assets inside the police station is a great first step. But this alone never fills the meter to 100%. Look for other things to blow up, such as vehicles parked inside, explosive barrels, and the actual walls in and around the police station.

Releasing Prisoners

Not all police stations are the same, and not all have prisoners. But for those that do, you must hack open their jail cells and let them out. This is best done once the Rebels have been called in so that the militia inside the police station have something else to shoot at besides you. What happens to the prisoners after they’re released is not your concern, just as long as they have been freed.

Police Station Liberation Tips

As with any base, town, or outpost, it’s always a good idea to assault the destructibles while piloting an attack helicopter. Towns and police stations are not protected by SAM sites, but you must contend with enemy air support. If the heat comes on strong, then attack the police station first. That way, if you lose the helicopter in battle, then the timeliest challenge—raising the Havoc Meter—has already been accomplished. If you lose your copter during or after the attack, simply hijack one of the enemy helicopters out of the sky using your grapple, then enter vehicle command.

Disable Monitoring System

Some towns have a certain number of monitors to disable in an allotted amount of time. You must push the button on each monitor to disable it. The fastest way to reach each one is to grapple, parachute, or wingsuit it—and sometimes a combination of all three. Grappling is the fastest, but it won’t always reach from one monitor to the next. Aim for the actual monitor pole or the rooftop just below the pole to be pulled directly toward the monitor. Grapple out of a parachute glide to quickly reach your destination. Whenever possible, disable the monitors from highest to lowest (falling is faster than climbing). Use our numbered monitors on our maps for the quickest route to all of the monitors.

Bavarium Excavators

There are many Bavarium Excavators in the Bavarium mining fields. These monstrous mining machines weigh tons and are heavily defended, but you must destroy them. An Excavator has two main components: the body and the drilling arm. You must destroy both to completely wreck the Excavator.

Excavator Body

To raze an Excavator, you must destroy its eight generators on the top platform. There are four on each side. Some Excavators are equipped with Capstone FH155s on each side, which allows you to finish them off pretty quickly. Just be aware that the main platform explodes when you destroy the final generator, so clear out once you eliminate it.

Excavator Drilling Arm

If destroying the eight generators does not finish off the Excavator, then make sure you destroy the excavation arm, as well. It’s good practice to attack the arm first. There are seven main target points on the arm: the extension arm joints (colored red) and then the motor at the fulcrum of the arm. However, the two weakest points are the joints on the extension closest to the platform itself. Target these with explosives or rockets to blow them up quickly. Usually destroying these two is enough to eliminate the drill; however, sometimes you must also hit another target farther up the arm.
