Sea Sload

Sea Sload (Boss Z’Maja)
Description

Sea Sload are powerful, large, and revolting beings that use telepathy to speak. They are engorged, slug-like monstrosities, but their portly form belies immense magical prowess. There are four known Sea Sload within the confines of Summerset (and these foes may have attacks specifically called out in a quest):

  • K’Tora: the leader of the cabal, a “male” who specializes in mind magic. He resides in the Psijic Relic Vaults (Artaeum).
  • K’Garza: active in the public dungeon Karnwasten; a “female” who specializes in necromancy.
  • B’Korgen: a group boss and “male” who specializes in alchemy.
  • Z’Maja: a dungeon boss in Cloudrest; a “female” who specializes in shadow magic. General attacks are detailed below.
Orb Abilities
  • Summoning Orb (Pearlescent Orb): Two orbs rise, one near the Sea Sload and the other close to you. More than one of these orbs may be active at once. A group boss may summon as many orbs as there are party members and attempt to surround himself with them. These defensive orbs prevent ranged attacks against the Sea Sload. Focus fully charged heavy attacks on the orbs to remove them.
  • Energy Shield (Hallucinosis): A shield of psychic energy around the Sea Sload is created, acting as a primary defense. When taking damage, this shield may pulsate and expel a kind of “psychic blister” that inflicts AoE Mental Magic damage on the attacker and nearby combat space, which also activates pearlescent orbs. Yaghra are summoned when these pearls are hit by the AoE. When damage inflicted reaches maximum on the shield, it explodes, spewing a number of slow-moving magical line attacks in all directions. If you’re caught by any of these attacks, expect to be snared with Ticking damage. There is a group boss variant that bursts into a single, massive AoE attack once maximum shield damage is reached.
  • Orb Reposition (Mental Manipulation): The Sea Sload moves the positions of any of its pearlescent orbs, pushing them around the combat space. Avoid these; they can damage and stagger you if they strike you.
Abilities
  • Mental Strike (Mind Blast): The Sea Sload focuses mental damage with pinpoint force, inflicting both pain and staggering on the target ahead. This also marks the target for a number of seconds, making them the primary focus for any nearby Yaghra. When used by a group boss, this can affect multiple targets. Avoid.
  • Wave Portal (Cognitive Dissonance): When the Sea Sload is threatened, it creates a hydro-portal, and then a second one at least 15 meters away (and usually within range of an orb). This is its defensive move to get away from combat. Follow and press your attacks home.
  • Ally Buff (Engorge the Horde): The Sea Sload congeals a mystical ball of energy, releasing it to target nearby melee or ranged Yaghra, and applying a buff; any Yaghra caught in this medium-sized AoE are affected. Focus on Yaghra takedowns to ensure strengthened Yaghra are kept to a minimum.
  • Self-Heal (Ingurgitate): The Sea Sload commands an orb to it, which is then absorbed and consumed, giving the Sea Sload a rapid health regeneration. A group boss variant allows multiple orbs to be absorbed simultaneously. Removing the orbs becomes much more important, so focus heavy attacks on them to remove as many as you can.
