Most of you reading this book are already familiar with the basics of crafting and have already finished all of the Crafting Certification quests. For those who haven’t, here’s a breakdown of them all and where they appear in Summerset.
Jewelry Crafting Certification
Description: Learn to craft rings and amulets and ultimately get granted the certification of a jewelry crafter.
Acquire Pewter Dust
The first step toward crafting jewelry is finding materials to work with. Lucky for you, there’s an abundance of materials just outside Alinor’s southwestern gate. Pewter Seams look a lot like ore nodes and that’s because they basically are. There are three Pewter Seams just outside of Alinor; you’ll need to mine all three to obtain enough Pewter Dust to please Felarian. Once you have 10 Pewter Dust, return to Felarian.
Acquire Pewter Ounces
Use one of the Jewelry Crafting Stations on the left side of the Plaza of the Hand to craft two Pewter Ounces out of the Pewter Dust you recently found. You need only select it while on the Refine tab, then hit the button assigned to Refine to create the Pewter Ounces. Once you’ve created them, head back to Felarian.
Craft a Pewter Ring
Head back to the Jewelry Crafting Station and select the Creation tab. Have Ring as your selected type and Pewter Ounces as your selected material. Once everything is in order, hit the button assigned to Craft. Take the completed Pewter Ring back to Felarian.
Head back to the Jewelry Crafting Station and deconstruct the ring. To do this, select the Deconstruct tab, then select the Pewter Ring and hit the button assigned to Deconstruct. You’ll be given back a portion of the items used in the ring’s creation, along with some Inspiration. Return to Felarian and present your prize. He will award you with 5 Terne Grains and 1,000 Inspiration.
You’ll also be given the right to complete Jewelry Crafting writs, which require you to craft certain objects, then turn them in to a drop-off location for crafting materials and Inspiration points.
Crafting Certification
Description: Speak with either Millenith or Danel Telleno to be granted the right to earn crafting certifications. Millenith will certify the Blacksmith, Clothier, and Woodworker skill lines, while Danel Telleno will certify the Enchanter, Alchemy, and Provisioner lines. You’ll need to complete small quests for each certification in order to pass them, but they are quite simple and only require you to gather items for that skill line and produce something basic.
Complete the order on each of the writs to earn Inspiration (experience for your crafting skill lines) and crafting resources.
Enchanter Certification
Description: In order to be a certified Enchanter and have the right to complete Enchanter crafting writs, you first need to prove yourself.
Gather Runestones Outside of Alinor
You’ll need a Ta Aspect Rune, an Oko Essence Rune, and a Jora Potency Rune. If your head is spinning, grab it firmly and take a deep breath. You need only step outside of town and locate a Runestone to obtain all three in one go. After finding the three Runes, head back to Danel Telleno.
Craft a Trifling Glyph of Health
Head to a nearby enchanting table and add the Jora, Ta, and Oko Runes to craft a Trifling Glyph of Health. Take the Glyph back to Telleno and give it to him to earn a Jejota Rune and 1,000 Inspiration Points for the Enchanting skill line.
Writs for Enchanting will appear on the Consumables Crafting Writs board in the center of the crafting area on Alinor’s south side; they’ll also be available in any major city with a large crafting area in it.
Completing writs is very similar to what you just did for certification, but without it telling you what the recipes for the Glyphs they require are. You’ll also need to locate certain Runes as part of each writ, but neither of these tasks is more than finding a simple Rune and crafting a simple Glyph, then turning them in to a designated location. Make a point to do these every time you login to the game to reap their benefits.
Provisioner Certification
Description: Complete your Provisioner certification to gain access to daily crafting writs.
Learn the Recipe for Roast Pig
Open Danel Telleno’s trunk and take the Recipe: Roast Pig. Open your inventory and activate the recipe to learn it. Then head back to Telleno.
Acquire White Meat
Head to the location marked on the map and locate the pork sitting atop the barrels behind Anginil the chef. Grab the meat and head back to Danel Telleno.
Craft a Roast Pig
Head to the cooking fire on the south side of Alinor. Craft the Roast Pig and take it back to Telleno to earn a box of Cooking Supplies and 1,000 Inspiration Points.
From now on, you’ll be offered daily Provisioner crafting writs, which you can complete for new recipes and Inspiration. Completing these follows a similar structure as your certification quest. You’ll be tasked with creating items at a cooking fire, which you will have to hunt down the ingredients and recipes for (assuming you don’t already have both); then you’ll have to deliver the completed items to their designated drop spot.
You’ll likely need to buy recipes to complete your writs for the first dozen or two, so burn your local chef’s location in your brain. If you have the cash, feel free to buy up every recipe a chef has. Making the highest level dishes and drinks is the fastest way to increase your Provisioner skill line if you’ve been diligent in collecting food crafting items during your adventures.
Alchemy Certification
Description: Craft a potion for Danel Telleno to prove you know your stuff. If you can show him you’re worthy of certification, he’ll give you access to daily Alchemy crafting writs.
Acquire Columbine, Mountain Flower, and Natural Water
Head through the southwestern gate and head to the stream running out of town. You can find Natural Water in the bubbling area in the stream.
You can find Columbine near the city wall. It’s a plant with pink, drooping buds.
You can find Mountain Flower near the city wall as well. Look for an orange plant that could be easily mistaken for a weed.
After grabbing all three elements, head back to Danel Telleno for your next objective.
Craft a Sip of Health Potion
Take the ingredients you’ve gathered and head south to the crafting area of Alinor, the Plaza of the Hand. Activate the table and add the Natural Water, Columbine, and Mountain Flower to craft a Sip of Health Potion. Once it’s finished, give it to Telleno to complete the quest.
You’ll earn five Natural Waters and 1,000 Inspiration as a reward. You’ll also gain access to daily Alchemy crafting writs, which you can complete to earn Inspiration and other Alchemy-related crafting materials. Completing these writs is much like completing this quest. You’re instructed to craft a certain kind of potion and required to find specific Alchemy ingredients; then you’re sent on your way. Once you’ve completed the objectives, you’ll need to take the ingredients and the potion to a drop-off location to complete the quest. You can do this once a day, which we highly recommend if you’re looking to raise the level of your Alchemy skill line.
Blacksmith Certification
Description: Do you fancy yourself a metalworker? Do you love the smell of coal and the feel of heat from a blazing kiln and soot in all of your pores? If you answered yes to these questions, we’ve got news for you! You were born and bred to be one of the elite, the sweaty, the perpetually blistered: we’re talking about Blacksmithing. Create what Millenith asks of you and you can begin your career as a Blacksmith toot sweet.
Acquire Iron Ore
Exit Alinor through its southwestern gate and follow the main road. It will take you right to nearby mining nodes. You’ll need to mine from each of the marked Iron Ore nodes to obtain enough Iron Ore for the objective.
Once you’ve gathered the necessary Iron Ore, head back to Millenith.
Acquire Iron Ingots
You’ll now need to turn your ore into ingots. Head south to the Plaza of the Hand and use the Blacksmithing Station in the back of the plaza. Add your Iron Ore and refine it to turn it into Iron Ingots. Now return to Millenith to show her what you’ve made.
Craft an Iron Dagger
Head back to the Blacksmithing Station and go to the Creation tab. Select Dagger from the list and craft it. You can increase the level of the weapons and armor you make by adding more resources before crafting, but it’s not necessary for this quest.
Once you’ve crafted an Iron Dagger, return to Millenith and hand it over. She’ll task you with deconstructing your new and precious creation. Technically you can deconstruct any metal-based armor or weaponry, but there’s something more poetic about having to kill your own lovingly crafted dagger.
Head back to the Blacksmithing Station and move to the Deconstruct tab. Select the Iron Dagger and deconstruct it to earn back some of the materials you used to craft it. Once you’ve done the deed, return to Millenith and cry into her powerful, soot-stained arms. In an attempt to console you for the loss of your beloved Iron Dagger, she’ll give you a Honing Stone and 1,000 Inspiration. She’ll also grant you access to Blacksmith crafting writs, which you can perform daily.
Completing Blacksmith crafting writs is very similar to the certification test, but without the heartbreak of deconstruction. You’re given an order for certain weapons and armor, which you must fill, then take to a designated drop-off location. Completing these writs will award you more Blacksmithing resources and Inspiration, and they are well worth doing if you have any desire to raise your Blacksmithing skill line.
Woodworker Certification
Description: Prove to Millenith you’ve got what it takes to be a certified Woodworker. Complete her task and you’ll be granted access to daily crafting writs to further your quest to become Tamriel’s greatest carpenter.
Acquire Rough Maple
Head through Alinor’s northern gate to reach a location plentiful with Rough Maple. Approach each Maple log and activate it to harvest it. You’ll need to harvest three separate logs to obtain the necessary amount of Rough Maple. Once you’ve obtained all 10 pieces, bring them back to Millenith.
Acquire Sanded Maple
Head south from Millenith to reach the Plaza of the Hand. Head to the right side of the plaza’s back end to find a Woodworking Station (it’s right next to the Blacksmithing Stations). Add your Rough Maple and refine it to create Sanded Maple. Now head back to Millenith.
Craft a Maple Bow
Head back to the Woodworking Station and select the Creation tab. Craft a Bow, then return to Millenith. She’ll ask you to break what you just created—which seems awfully rude and maybe a tad passive-aggressive.
Deconstruct Your Maple Bow
Return to the Woodworking Station and select the Deconstruct tab to destroy your magnum opus. You’ll be given a paltry item as a consolation prize for destroying your own art. Once you complete the dark deed, return to Millenith one final time to complete the quest. You’ll be given Pitch and 1,000 Inspiration, plus the ability to complete daily Woodworking crafting writs.
You can obtain crafting writs from every major city in Tamriel near crafting areas like Alinor’s Plaza of the Hand. Completing writs follows the same basic formula as the certification quests. You’ll be given an order that can only be filled with your skills in a certain crafting skill line. Create the items on the order, then drop them off at their specific drop location to complete the writ. You’ll earn crafting resources for the skill line related to the crafting writ and you’ll also net Inspiration Points for that same skill line. It’s well worth the effort if you’re looking to advance in a specific crafting line, so do them daily if you can manage.
Clothier Certification
Description: Learn to craft cloth “armor” or prove that you already have the know-how. If Millenith likes what you have on offer, she’ll make you a genuine, certified Clothier.
Acquire Raw Jute
Head through Alinor’s north gate and turn right to find a slew of Jute plants. There are three contained in the marked circle; you must harvest all of them to get the necessary amount for Millenith. Once you have what you need, head back to Millenith to get your next task.
Acquire Jute
Head south from Millenith into Alinor’s Plaza of the Hand. Head to the plaza’s back left corner to find a couple of Clothing Stations. Use one to refine the Raw Jute by selecting it from the Refine tab. Once you’ve created the required amount of Jute, head back to Millenith.
Craft Homespun Gloves
Return to the Clothing Station and select the Creation tab. Now select Gloves as your Type and Jute as your Material, then hit the designated crafting button to create a pair of Homespun Gloves. You can add more Jute to increase the level of the gloves, but that’s unnecessary for completing this quest. Just keep it in the back of your mind for future crafting fun.
Head back to Millenith and show her your gloves.
Deconstruct the Homespun Gloves
Millenith will request that you destroy the gloves to prove that you are as experienced in the destruction of things as you are in the creation of them. Head back to the Clothing Station and select the Deconstruct tab. Select your gloves, share some parting words, then send them to wherever gloves go when they die. With their remains in hand, head back to Millenith and gloat about being a shameless glove murderer. She’ll revel in your sinister storytelling and tip you with Hemming and 1,000 Inspiration Points.
You’ll also gain access to Clothing crafting writs, which are daily quests that award crafting materials and Inspiration. These quests involve a lot more creation and a lot less glove slaying, so make sure to consider those elements before deciding to become a full-time writ crafter. Once you’ve created what’s listed on the writ, you’ll need to turn it all in to the designated drop-off location. If you’re looking to create better cloth “armor,” you’ll want to complete these writs as much as possible, so perform them whenever you are given the opportunity.
