Stag Arc 2 (Missions 40-41)

Unlocks: New Vehicle—STAG tank; New Weapon—Sonic Boom

Find the Sonic Boom

With the city of Steelport on lockdown, the best way to take the fight to STAG is in the air. Got to the airport to meet Viola and use her jet to prepare for another aerial adventure.

After you make a death-defying leap onto the STAG jet, the objective is to get to the cockpit but the door ahead of you is locked from the other side. Make a vane attempt to open the doors, then turn around to search the plane for something you can use to bust through.

There are three weapons crates to search, but not matter what order you open them in, the item you want is always in the last one. Before getting the goodies in the crates, there is the not-so-small problem of dealing with STAG commandos. These soldiers are the most heavily armored and elusive enemies you have fought. It will take a lot more shots to bring them down and they are agile enough to make it difficult to get a bead on them. Stay behind the crates and pick off the few guards roaming below.

Don’t forget to take out the roaming commando on the upper walkway. It is easy to forget about this guy because he moves around a lot and also climbs down to the bottom level. At some point, while you take on the couple of commandos below, he will appear and it’s better to take him out while behind cover than to deal with him amid the other guards.

It’s tempting to run downstairs to check out the crates after killing off the obvious commandos. However, there are two hiding behind the stairs. Sprint down the steps and spin around to face them before taking a bullet in the back.

There are three weapons crates to search; the one between two tanks holds the key to opening that stubborn door. Before getting the goodies in the crates, there is the not-so-small problem of dealing with STAG commandos.

Return upstairs to the locked door and charge up a blast from the Sonic Boom to blow the doors down. Make sure you are close enough to actually do damage. As powerful as the weapon is, it is has limited range.

Sky High-Jack

Several commandos are guarding the next section and, as cool as your new toy is, the gun is not effective at long range. Switch to a more practical gun like the laser rifle and wipe out the guards from the cover of the crates and computer rack. Kill the commandos on the top level first, then move in closer if necessary and eliminate the guards below.

When the room is clear downstairs, go to the upper level across from you. Blow through the door leading to the cockpit; unfortunately, the overpowered weapon ends up destroying the front end of the plane. A timer starts counting down, giving you 1 minute to escape the place.

Retrace your steps and run back to the place where you searched the crates. Don’t waste time fighting with the guards. Use the Sonic Boom to clear a path if you need to and keep running. Hop into one of the tanks to go tank gliding.

Unidentified Flying Tank

It wasn’t enough of a thrill to kill off guys while falling in the beginning of the game. A real adrenaline junkie does it in a tank! The heavy military vehicle falls really slowly, which gives you plenty of time to blow up falling enemies. The main targets are the other falling tanks but let the cannon and machine gun loose on the sailing commandos as well.

Keep an eye on the HUD for the circular red indicators that show where the tanks are. They have powerful laser cannons that can be very deadly, especially when you are caught in a crossfire. Spin your sights to find the closest ones and use all the weapons to destroy them quickly.

Eventually the falling commandos bombard your tank with rockets. To make matters worse, F-69 VTOLs join the assault on the tank. The tank will start to smoke and blaze. This is actually not a problem and should be expected. Bail out of the tank to temporarily consider hitching a ride on one of the planes in the STAG convoy.

The plane-surfing plan is quickly abandoned; now you must find another tank while plummeting to your doom. This is very reminiscent of the scene where you saved Shaundi. This time around, you need to hijack an enemy tank, that is firing on you, in midair. Guide yourself to the blue target and the rest is done for you.

Your tank lands surprisingly undamaged along with other debris such as the enemy commandos and tanks. In a freak turn of events, the fallen items smash into larger containers at a chemical factory. An eerie green gas escapes the containers and soon the fallen commandos reanimate as freaking zombies.

Clean Up Container 1

The mayor of Steelport needs the Saints’ help. Aiding the local officials has never been in the Saints’ playbook, but with STAG and the Syndicate to deal with it makes sense a lot of sense to get on his good side. Who else could run a corrupt, crackpot town like Steelport except for Burt Freaking Reynolds. It should come as no surprise that the mayor has a zombie problem. The Saints aren’t familiar with undead cleanup, but who can say no to Burt?

ZOMBIES

Drive to the quarantine zone to deal with the living dead. Three contaminated containers are leaking the virus. All three must be submerged in water to neutralize the contagion. It’s a good thing you picked up that Sonic Boom in the last mission because its concussive blast will be essential to knock the containers into the drink.

Welcome to the zombie apocalypse. Unlike in movie lore, these zombies move quickly. Also, it doesn’t take a precise headshot to get rid of these variety of undead. Any weapon will suffice; but be warned, this mission can really chew through your ammo. The best option to wipe out the zomibes is any upgraded weapon you have. Any powerful gun should be able to dispatch the undead with one or two bullets. Just be careful to switch back to the Sonic Boom so you don’t shoot the containers. It’s possible to use the Sonic Boom for most of the mission, but the long charge time is a drawback. However it does have unlimited ammo and no reload time.

Run down the first alleyway and charge the Sonic Boom as you go. Whenever the living dead approach, especially in groups, let it rip with a full charge. The gun is rather ineffective for quick shots and you must keep sprinting to give it time to charge.

When you get to the first contaminated container, push it into the water to the right with a few quick shots. Watch your back while shooting the tank into the drink or a gang of zombies will start chowing down on you neck.
