Walking

By default, you walk when the movement stick is pushed in any direction gently so that you can have fine control over speed and position. Most of the game you will be running or sprinting, but when you need fine control of your position just walk.

Running

When you push the movement stick beyond the walking speed threshold, your character will immediately begin moving at a faster running pace. This movement can be made in any direction and at any time.

Sprinting

By holding a button down, you can sprint. Sprinting moves your character at a faster than normal speed and decreases the sprint meter, which determines how long the character can sprint. In addition to simply moving faster, you will also push people out of the way and can enter vehicles a lot faster while sprinting.

Jumping and Diving

When you are running you can press the jump button to make a small leap. This is very useful for hopping over small hurdles that get in your way. However, if you are sprinting, you will make a much large dive that is great for ducking behind cover or avoiding gunfire.

Crouching

Players can crouch down to allow them to hide below taller objects by entering crouch mode. Crouch mode can be either a press-and-hold button or a toggled button that stays on once activated, this can be set in the options menu. Crouching is a great way to make yourself a smaller target during gun battles.

Skydiving

After falling for a certain distance, you will automatically enter a skydiving movement mode. While in this mode, you can alter your direction and speed. Depending on the height of the jump, you must either deploy the parachute or land in water to avoid a mess.

Parachuting

While skydiving you will be prompted to open the parachute. In this mode you can adjusting the parachute canopy to change the movement direction and speed to choose where to land. While parachuting you can activate the base jumping diversion and attempt to land in a lighted target on the ground.

Swimming

Any time you enter water of a certain depth you immediately begin swimming. Swimming uses the same movement controls as walking and running and you swim at a set speed. If you don’t feel like swimming, simply press the button shown on screen to warp to the nearest land mass.

Taunting/Complimenting

Whenever you are on foot you will be able to express yourself by taunting or complimenting nearby people of Steelport. Complimenting people passing by elicits humorous responses. However, if you taunt police or gang members, you had better be ready for a reprisal because they don’t take kindly to being insulted. Through player customization, you can choose from a long list of taunts and compliments to express your style best.

Recruiting/Dismissing Followers

As the leader of the Saints, you have a large number of gang members at your disposal to help you engage the enemies. If you see a friendly gang member, simply press the recruit button to call the ally to your side. Once recruited, the friendly gang member follows you around, gets into cars with you, and even defends you in battles. This can be a tremendous help when tackling Gang Operations, attempting to make it through survival missions, or any time you need help wiping out your enemies. Up to three followers can be recruited at any one time. You must purchase the recruiting option in the Upgrades Menu. If you get tired of being shadowed, dismiss your followers as easily as they were recruited.
