Weapons Overview

Weapon Categories

Throughout your adventures you will encounter numerous types of weapons with a large variety of functionality. When you press the Weapon Inventory Menu, you can select from seven groups of weapons using the analog stick and four types of thrown projectiles using the directional pad. Ultimately, all weapons can be classified into nine categories: melee, pistol, submachine gun, shotgun, rifle, explosive, special, grenades, and temporary.

Acquiring Weapons

As a Reward

Weapons are an essential part of survival in Steelport and there are several ways to acquire them. The first method is passive: A weapon can be a reward during specific missions of the Campaign. During particular missions, a new weapon is featured and it will become part of your inventory when the mission is completed.

From Fallen Foes

The next way to get a new weapon is to simply pick one up from a fallen enemy that was foolish enough to try to use it against you. When you walk over a weapon, a message appears on the HUD display asking if you would like to swap your current weapon for the one on the floor. Also, running over any weapon on the ground picks up ammo for that category of weapon.

Buy It

The last resort for acquiring weapons is to actually buy them. The Friendly Fire store (shown as a gun icon on the map) is the local gun shop where you can purchase weapons, ammo, and upgrades. However, most of the essential weapons will be provided throughout the campaign and it is usually best to save your money for ammo and upgrades.

Weapon Upgrades

Purchasing Upgrades

Nearly all of the weapons in the game can be upgraded at Friendly Fire. The more powerful the weapon, the more you can expect to pay to upgrade your tools of the trade. For most of your gear, there are three levels to upgrade plus the default state of your gun. Each level get progressively more expensive, and the top level sometimes adds a new feature to the weapon.

Note

If you buy a Friendly Fire store you will receive a 5 percent discount. Also, after completing Mission 28, you can select an additional 25 percent discount as a reward. These combined savings can make some of the upgrades a lot more affordable.

Upgrade Options

Perhaps an even more important method for upgrading weapons is through the Upgrades option in the Cell Phone Menu. Through these options, it is possible to shorten the reload time, increase ammo capacity, and even wield dual pistols and SMGs.

Ammo

Ammo is shared between all weapons of the same category: pistols, submachine guns, shotguns, and rifles. This means that the ammo for any rifle will be the same no matter which one is selected. As mentioned previously, ammo can be at found when you search the bodies of your fallen enemies. In addition, it can be purchased at Friendly Fire for these amounts per denomination.

Note

Certain weapons like the Sonic Boom and Cyber Buster don’t rely on ammo.

• Pistol—$25 for 50 rounds
• Rifle—$100 for 100 rounds
• Shotgun—$50 for 20 rounds
• SMG—$50 for 200 rounds
• Sniper Rifle—$50 for 8 rounds
• Drone—$100 for 1 round
• RPG—$50 for 1 round
• Airstrike—$200 for 1 round
• Satchel Charge—$50 for 1 round
• Grenade—$25 each
• Electric Grenade—$25 each
• Flashbang—$25 each
• Molotov—$25 each

Once you get the final upgrade for the 45 Shepherd you can humiliate your enemies by juggling them in the air with explosive rounds.

With their armor piercing bullets, the fully upgraded KA-1 Kobra and D4th Blossom SMG work wonders against armored Brutes and enemies with Riot shields.

Neutralize a crowd of enemies by spraying them down with the fully upgraded Tek Z-10 SMG – incendiary rounds make for great crowd control.

You’re vulnerable to attack while using the Reaper Drone, so find a good cover spot before you activate this weapon.

You can use the RC Gun to perform stealth attacks. If you attack someone with a remote controlled vehicle nobody will know it was you controlling the vehicle.

A charged up Sonic Booom blast is more powerful but it also has a much narrower area of effect. Learn to use the right blast for the right situation.

If you decided to unmask Killbane, try taunting while wearing his mask. Anyone that witnesses your taunt will have an incendiary reaction.

Assault rifles are powerful and accurate but tend to have longer reload times. Upgrade your reload speed to make assault rifles much more effective.

Purchase strongholds and upgrade them to increase how much your ammo is refilled whenever you access your weapons cache.

Use temporary weapons like the Minigun or Luchadore Grenade Launcher wheneverpossible – they’re incredibly powerful and you’ll save ammo.

Grenades can get you out of a sticky situation. Don’t forget to stock up on grenades whenever you visit a Friendly Fire store.
