The Kraken gains its advantage from flying high and calling down ranged attacks and abilities. As a team, the main focus should be to bring the Kraken to the ground by any means necessary. Be sure to conserve your Jet Pack so that you have fuel to dodge this Monster’s abilities. When setting up a team fight or ambush, try to trap the Kraken inside a cave. Keep a small spread when fighting the Kraken to prevent the Monster from striking multiple Hunters with its attacks.
Assault
All Assault classes have a medium-range weapon; be prepared to use it! The Kraken tries to stay high in the sky, so pester it with as many bullets as possible when it is not in range of your close-quarters weapons. If you run out of Jet Pack during a team battle, use your Personal Shield to absorb attacks. It is a good idea to take some damage first, however. For example, letting the Kraken hit you with the ability the first time and then using your shield to block it the second time will have the Kraken wasting much more of its time trying to eliminate you.
At first, Markov’s Arc Mines may seem ineffective against the Kraken. However, if you combine them with Maggie’s Harpoon Traps, you may be able to pull the Monster into them. This is not always effective, though, due to the Kraken’s ability to combat any type of deployable object at range.
The best choice when combatting the Kraken is Parnell. Using his Super Soldier ability, combined with his long-range Rocket Launcher, inflicts massive amounts of damage on the Kraken.
Medic
As the Medic, focus on keeping your distance from the other Hunters in a team battle. This tactic (for the most part) keeps the Monster from targeting you. Use Val or Caira’s ability to revive incapacitated Hunters at a range to prevent being a stationary target for the Kraken.
Val is best equipped for taking down the Kraken. Using the Tranquilizer Gun slowly pulls the Kraken directly out of the sky, and unlike the Harpoon Traps, the Monster cannot do anything to wear off the slowing effect of the dart early. Once you have the Monster slowed, use your Armor-Piercing Sniper Rifle to put a few critical points onto the Monster. Critical points increase all of the Hunters’ abilities to deal damage at range. Use the Medgun and Healing Bursts to revive Hunters. Keep them moving, and prevent them from getting hit by the Kraken’s abilities.
Support
All Support Hunters have decent weapons to combat the Kraken even when the Monster is high in the sky. When the Mobile Arena is in full effect, activate your Cloaking Field, and stay close to the Trapper to prevent the Kraken from taking down the arena.
Cabot’s Rail Cannon is the best weapon for fighting the Kraken. Its high damage at range and ability to shoot through objects definitely gives him an edge over the other Support-class Hunters. Once the Monster is trapped in the Mobile Arena, drop a Dust Tag to keep track of him, and then spam the Rail Cannon. After you’ve brought the Monster down to the ground, switch to the Damage Amplifier to maximize the damage your team does for the few moments the Monster is on the ground.
Trapper
The Mobile Arena is the best tool to turn the tides against the Kraken during a fight. This makes the Trapper a key tool to gain a victory against this Monster. An advanced Hunter will drop the Mobile Arena on a fleeing Kraken. Doing this forces the Kraken closer to the ground. Try to work the fight into the corners by using Griffin’s Harpoon Gun or Maggie’s Harpoon Traps. Since the Kraken can fly, it may be hard to track using only footsteps. Definitely keep an eye out for broken trees and other environmental clues.
When playing against the Kraken, the Trapper must spend most of their time keeping the Kraken slowed and pinned to the ground. Keep this in mind, and let the rest of the Hunters focus on dealing the damage!
Bringing the Kraken down to fight on the ground and keeping the Monster there is the most important job for the Trapper. Griffin can easily accomplish this task, as he can use his Harpoon Gun to pull the Kraken directly out of the sky. To get an even better edge when using the Harpoon Gun, aim for the backside of the Monster. Then, just as the Monster is about to break the harpoon link, let go and reposition while you begin to reload. This technique gives the Monster less time in between being harpooned. When placing Sound Spikes, keep in mind that most Kraken players will avoid caves, so try to place them in open ground around the map.
