Loadout
Abe’s tracking device is the Tracking Dart Pistol, which requires getting a bead on the Monster or marking its future food. When in combat, two weapons are a huge benefit to the team. Abe’s Custom Shotgun deals out decent damage if used properly, and Stasis Grenades can greatly slow the beast down.
Custom Shotgun
Mastery Reward: Increased Damage
Maximum Damage per Shot:88
Fire Rate: 300 Rounds per Minute
Ammo Capacity:8
The Custom Shotgun is a decent weapon for the Trapper. It can be used at almost any range and deals a fair amount of damage, if used properly. Press the Primary button to equip the gun, and squeeze the Fire button to discharge the buckshot. You can reload the gun to its capacity of six shells at any time by pressing the Reload button.
The shotgun’s accuracy becomes more inconsistent the quicker the weapon is fired. Slow down your fire rate to narrow the spread. At a slow enough pace, the accuracy is surprisingly good. Aim for weak spots that Val or Lazarus creates for extra damage.
Abe’s Stasis Grenade is still his most important weapon in combat, but it is well worth your time to pull this one out and make the Monster bleed.
Stasis Grenades
Mastery Reward: Increased Radius
Effect:60% Slower Movement Speed
Max Duration:15 Seconds
Effective Radius:15 Meters
The Stasis Grenades dramatically slow the Monster’s speed. This is extremely valuable in combat, as it allows teammates to stay out of the enemy’s reach as they unload their weaponry. Tap the Secondary button to equip the grenades, and then press the Fire button to lob one toward your reticle. Hold the button down to display its trajectory for more accurate throws. You can place five of these grenades at one time. Blue dashes along the bottom of the reticle show how many have been used.
Stasis Grenades stick to any surface. For about 12 seconds, the grenade emits a field that slows the Monster down when within range. Spread these around the battlefield to slow the giant down. As the grenades die out, toss new ones around to maintain the effect.
These are extremely effective against the quick Wraith or Kraken, since they can be tough to hit when at full speed. Against any Monster, though, these grenades help the Hunters stay out of reach.
Out of combat, tossing these grenades into suspected paths of the Monster can help the team catch up to their objective more quickly. In Defend mode, use these to slow the Monster and its minions down as they attempt to reach the generators.
“Listen, Spooky: you do not want to make a deal with this man. And that’s coming from *me*.” —Abe
Tracking Dart Pistol
Mastery Reward: Increased Duration
Tracking Duration: 45 Seconds
Fire Rate: 200 Rounds per Minute
Ammo Capacity: 6
Abe uses a Tracking Dart Pistol to find the Monster. Press the Equipment button to equip the gun, and pull the Fire button to shoot the dart. Six darts are held in a clip, which you can refill at any time with the Reload button.
You can track the Monster directly by hitting it with a dart. Alternately, by tagging wildlife and corpses, you create bait for the beast. When it devours one, the tracker continues to work from inside.
Hit as much wildlife with Tracking Darts as you can. The more tagged bodies out there, the more likely the Monster will ingest them. Dead tagged creatures may often be more tempting to the beast than live ones. Easy-kill Monsters are especially good targets for the Tracking Darts.
As the Mobile Arena is about to go down, tag the Monster with a Tracking Dart so that the team can quickly follow it. The longer the foe is tagged, the better chance there is to trap it again with another Mobile Arena.
