Evolve Official Strategy Guide Monsters Goliath

Fighting Against Goliath

When fighting Goliath, focus on surrounding him and attacking from all directions. Stay away from caves and areas that enable Goliath to get to high ground. If possible, take the fight to the water, as this takes away Goliath’s ability to catch the Hunters on fire.

Keep your distance from elite animals in a team fight. Since Goliath stays close to the ground when running, it may aggro a few of the Monsters during travel.

Assault

Make yourself a target! If playing with Hank, take turns activating your shield and having him shield you with the Shield Projector. A smart Goliath will leap away from you when you activate your shield; get in close, and make him pay. When playing as Markov, place mines on higher ground or in bushes to make them harder for Goliath to spot. Although Hyde’s Toxic Grenade is good for flushing the Monster out, if Goliath chooses to run away from the Hunters, the cloud will stay and slow you and your fellow Hunters down.

The only possible way Goliath can counter any of Parnell’s attacks is to knock him off his feet and send him tumbling. This makes Parnell an effective weapon at getting the Monster’s attention while maintaining constant damage. Use Super Soldier mixed with the Multifire Rocket Launcher when the Monster is at a distance. Once he is in close, pop your Personal Shield, and switch to the shotgun to maximize your damage.

Medic

Although you may not try to make your presence known on the battlefield, the Monster will try to incapacitate you as soon as you are spotted. Stick to high ground and keep at a distance while you heal other Hunters. Using Val or Caira allows you to revive other Hunters from afar, which is a crucial tactic to keep you out of the Goliath’s range of attack. Stay in the other Hunters’ line of sight to prevent Goliath from pouncing you. In team battles, Caira’s Acceleration Field enables the Hunters to dodge Goliath’s attacks with ease.

Tranquilizing Goliath helps prevent his onslaught of melee attacks and decreases his ability to close the distance between his enemies. Using the Armor-piercing Sniper Rifle, Val can place weak points in the Monster’s armor, helping to destroy the armor quickly. All of this, paired with Val’s pinpoint ability to heal other Hunters at a distance, makes her the most effective Medic against the Goliath.

Support

The Support class can turn the tides in battle against the Goliath. Utilizing Bucket’s Sentry Guns can help increase the DPS during a fight, although Goliath’s Fire Breath can easily take them out.

Using Hank’s Shield Projector on Goliath’s current target instantly negates its attack. This makes him a valuable asset when taking on this Monster. However, doing so also makes Hank a target, so consider cloaking if Goliath turns to charge him. Using the Orbital Strike on a pounced Hunter deals a high amount of damage while breaking the Hunter free and buying them some valuable space to get away.

Trapper

This is the only Monster that you don’t want to trap in a small space with you, especially at the beginning of a fight. Due to Goliath’s high armor, trapping it in the Mobile Arena early lets the Monster deal a lot of damage without much permanent effect. To defeat this, become a master of the “late dome.” Wait until you force Goliath to run from the fight, and in that moment, drop the Mobile Arena and take the fight to him.

Taking down Goliath’s health is important early on, especially if your team of Hunters isn’t able to take him out early game. This makes hunting the Monster down quickly very important, and there is no better team than Maggie and Daisy the Trapjaw. Daisy can narrow in on the Goliath with little help from the Hunters. The loyal Trapjaw also revives incapacitated Hunters, enabling your Medic to stay out of combat for longer periods of time. Try to keep Maggie’s Harpoon Traps a good distance apart to prevent Goliath from taking out multiple traps with a single melee attack or a burst of Fire Breath. Before the Mobile Arena is dropped, focus on slowing down Goliath and dealing damage when possible. Once the arena drops, the angry Monster comes at you with full force, so try to conceal yourself somewhere and stay alive. When Goliath’s attention is diverted, resume placing Harpoon Traps.
