The Kraken has the unique ability to fly and stay out of reach of close-combat attacks. He does gradually fall when hovering in combat, but he is able to stay up for a long time. However, he must drop to the ground to make his Aftershock ability effective.
Kraken is at his best when in the air. Val’s Tranquilizer Gun, Maggie’s Harpoon Traps, and Griffin’s Harpoon Gun are great for knocking him down. Place the Harpoon Traps on surrounding cliffs to grab him.
Stay alert for Kraken’s Banshee Mines as you hunt the foe, especially hidden in the foliage and at choke points. Destroying them as soon as they are spotted is good for the rest of the team, but you can also avoid them altogether. Watch out, as they will move toward you as you near their position.
Kraken’s Lightning Strike is his most devastating attack. When fully upgraded, it can almost kill any Hunter in one shot. It is easily avoided when you see it coming, but be sure that you have an escape route. A good Monster unleashes the move when his enemies are backed into a tight space.
The Aftershock ability has a big area of effect, which chains a lightning attack to anyone caught inside. Move out of this space to minimize the damage taken.
Vortex has an incredibly long range, so always be ready for it. Dodge to the side to avoid getting knocked back. This deals little damage compared to Kraken’s other abilities, but it is very effective in creating distance, which is what the Kraken always wants.
