Goliath is a close-quarters, heavily armored powerhouse. His main focus in combat is to knock the Hunters around as much as possible, as this prevents them from attacking and forming a solid plan of offense against him. Use your abilities mixed with leaping to pop in and out of combat, topping off your armor in between engagements. Goliath has more armor than Kraken or Wraith, making him the most resilient Stage 1 Monster in the game. Don’t be afraid to attack the Hunters with full armor at Stage 1 to get a few strikes in before evolving. If you are looking to rush the Hunters as Goliath, get your armor up quickly, then find an elite animal and initiate contact with the Hunters nearby. Getting wildlife involved in battle is the key to having an early game victory.
Assault
When fighting the Assault character, keep him off balance by charging and leap smashing into him. If you have to be in close, you don’t want him to be able to attack. Alternative methods could include using the Rock Throw ability to keep the Assault guy at bay.
If the Assault Hunter activates his Personal Shield, leave him alone and focus on another Hunter. Attacking an Assault Hunter with a Personal Shield is just wasting potential DPS against other targets.
Watch out for Markov’s Arc Mines: even a Stage 3 Goliath can have his armor taken down quickly by walking through a mine field. Counter the mines by either throwing rocks at them or using Fire Breath. Using Fire Breath doesn’t instantly detonate the mines, so make sure they explode before entering the battle.
Medic
The Medic is the priority target for Goliath. Val and Caira’s ability to heal their teammates at range while staying out of Goliath’s close-range attacks makes them big pests. If the Medic is keeping his or her distance from the team, use a quick series of Leaps or a Leap Smash to get to them. Then, use a quick Pounce to force their teammates to come closer to rescue the Medic.
When playing against Lazarus, be sure to choose Fire Breath early in the game, as this helps combat his Personal Cloak. Using abilities on incapacitated Hunters and then eating their bodies is another easy way for Goliath to combat Lazarus.
Support
The Support class can create some dangerous environments for Goliath to fight in, with Hank’s Orbital Barrage or Bucket’s Sentry Turrets. Combat these easily with a quick Leap or burst of Fire Breath. Team cloaking is not effective against a Goliath’s Fire Breath attack; just make sure to keep the fights away from water so the Hunters cannot put out the flames.
If you encounter a Hunter playing as Hank, take them out at the beginning of the fight. If Hank uses his Shield Projector efficiently, he can drastically decrease Goliath’s ability to take down Hunters, including pounced targets.
Trapper
Trappers try to slow you down at all costs. Sneak past Maggie’s Harpoon Traps to prevent them from activating, and then start your attack or use Fire Breath to eliminate all of the traps quickly. If caught by a harpoon, quickly turn and attack the cable before trying to leap away. When caught in the area of a Stasis Grenade, use your abilities or perform a Leap to escape the stasis field.
Leaving the Trapper for the final kill may help Goliath in a team fight by keeping the group of Hunters inside the Mobile Arena. If you can work the Hunters into a corner, or trap them in a cave with the help of the arena, the Trapper will be forced to deactivate the Mobile Arena.
