Many species of wildlife live on Shear, each with its own characteristics. Some ignore you, while others attack any time you get too close. Some go down fairly easily, whereas the big ones take several hits to kill.
For Hunters, unless a teammate is in trouble, it is not necessary to take these creatures down. In fact, by killing wildlife, you are basically giving the Monster easy food. (However, their corpses do decay and eventually disappear so that your nemesis cannot devour them.) Using your equipment on the wildlife is also an easy way to work toward your Character Mastery.
Use the corpses lying around to help track the Monster. If a corpse is intact, it has not been eaten. Since some wildlife kill others, this doesn’t necessarily mean the Monster did it. A bloody-looking corpse has been eaten, so it is possible that your target has been through the area. However, some wildlife will eat their prey. Some Monsters pass the corpses up to either put more distance from the Hunters or to throw you off.
Elite Wildlife
Occasionally, you may encounter an elite wildlife. Approach the corpse, and press the Reload button to gain the Perk. Now an icon appears in the top-right corner of the screen, with a circular timer around the outside. After five minutes, the Buff is lost.
Each member of the team can grab the Buff if desired. Usually, you should partake in the Perk. But if you already have one that you like better, perhaps you should pass it up. Sometimes, you may want to save it for later, but note that it will not be there forever. A Monster can also grab that Buff if it gets there quickly enough.
Buffs are associated with specific wildlife. It can often benefit the team to go after a certain Perk if you know where one can be found. Removing a particularly beneficial one to the Monster is another great tactic. As a bonus, the enemy might be thinking the same thing, and you may end up battling before it gets the opportunity to power up.
