Each Monster has advantages and disadvantages in each game mode. However, all of this also relies on a player’s knowledge, skill, and confidence with their chosen Monster. If you aren’t comfortable with a Monster, try practicing with that Monster offline.
Hunt
Monster players win Hunt by either killing the Hunters or evolving to Stage 3 and destroying a Power Relay.
This mode relies on the player’s ability to evade and effectively win combat engagements against the Hunters. There is no clear choice to say which Monster has an edge in Hunt, but there are a few easy choices to match a player’s play style.
If playing with Kraken, you can use the Lightning Strike and a few Banshee Mines to perform a rush attack on the freshly landed Hunters. Although unlikely in the first wave of attacks, you can get an early strike in on at least one of the Hunters. However, this style of play is incredibly risky: if the Trapper drops the Mobile Arena quickly, you will have no armor and be forced to fight for survival.
Wraith has the lowest amount of health, so rushing isn’t an option. Seek out armor quickly while avoiding any creatures that may do damage to her health early. Stealth is key when playing as Wraith, so if you enjoy sneaking around and striking isolated Hunters when the time is right, she is your choice.
From throwing rocks to getting up close and personal with a burst of Fire Breath, Goliath is the most versatile choice when playing Hunt. Although it may be harder to physically conceal yourself while you stomp the ground and knock down trees, Hunters aren’t much of a threat when they find Goliath loaded up with armor. Goliath holds the highest armor and health values in the game. The Hunters will look to drain your health early; make sure to get some good distance using a combination of leaping and sneaking to keep them guessing as you gain armor and work toward evolution.
nest
Sometimes, playing as the Monster might get lonely. Nest enables the Monster to hatch an egg spawning a minion that quickly finds and attacks the Hunters. Try to hold back on hatching an egg until ready for combat, as a team of Hunters can fairly easily fight a minion in most situations. However, hatching a damaged egg still spawns a full-health minion.
Goliath and Kraken are the two best choices for Nest.
Kraken can use his high-flying ranged attacks to support the minion and down Hunters while protecting the egg. You can use this tactic early on to scare the Hunters off an egg, buying a little extra time to work toward evolution.
With Goliath’s high armor, he can fill his armor bar, hatch a minion, and go for a quick attack on the Hunters. With the minion at your side, you can quickly achieve victory at Stage 1. Look to target and pounce Hunters who get tossed away. If they don’t communicate with the other Hunters, you’ll get a quick incapacitation while the rest of the Hunters work to take down the minion.
Rescue
In this game mode, winning requires the Monster to kill at least five survivors or eliminate all the Hunters.
The most effective way to eliminate the survivors is to get there quickly, and kill the incapacitated survivors before the other Hunters even get a chance to rescue them.
With her high mobility and damaging melee, Wraith is a very strong choice in Rescue. Quickly move to a downed survivor and eliminate them. Then, consider using Abduction to pull the next survivor to a different position, confusing the Hunters and letting Wraith finish them off safely.
Alternatively, Kraken’s ranged attacks can attack survivors from a long distance, keeping away from the Hunters and putting the beast a little bit closer to the next batch of survivors. This is less effective in the early game, but once evolved, Kraken’s abilities can deal heavy damage to the survivors.
Defend
Defend starts off with a fully loaded Stage 3 Monster of your choosing. The Monster achieves victory by destroying two generators and the Power Source.
Staying high in the sky and attacking the turrets with abilities and ranged attacks makes Kraken an easy choice for Defend mode.
Use the first wave of minions as cover to quickly look for creatures and get Kraken’s armor up. If the minions are still alive at the end of this process, sneak in, and try to down a turret with a Lightning Strike and a few ranged attacks from the sky. Focus on taking down the turrets first, then move on to protecting the minions. Distract the Hunters, and let the minions complete the objective for you. Use your abilities to sneak in a few attacks on the generator to speed up the process.
Goliath may not have the ranged advantage of the Kraken, but his high armor allows him to join the minions in the fight. Damage the turrets with a few well-placed Rock Throws before coming in to take down the generators with the minions. Don’t get too caught up in battle, as the Hunters still achieve victory if they kill the Monster.
