Hunter Objective: Locate, Revive, and Escort Five Survivors to a Rescue Shuttle

Monster Objective: Kill Five Survivors before They can be Rescued

A Monster roams the area as survivors have fled into the wilderness. It is up to the four Hunters to locate, revive, and escort the survivors to a rescue shuttle.

When the Hunters land, two survivors are revealed to both sides. The Hunters must move out and revive them before the Monster can kill them. Once the two have been revived or killed, a dropship appears in 30 seconds. Now, the Hunters must escort the colonists to the extraction point, protecting them from the Monster.

At this point, two more survivors appear. Repeat the same process as with the first group. Next, five survivors are revealed. Again, after all five are revived or killed, a dropship shows up to take the colonists away. The Hunters must escort any remaining survivors to the shuttle. In a close match, this is just enough to make it come down to the final survivor.

When the survivors are first revealed, they bleed out just as teammates do when the Monster downs them. Once the red drains from the skull icon, he or she dies. A number underneath the icon represents the distance to the survivor: the smaller the number, the closer the person.

The current objective is shown in the top-left corner, along with icons for the survivors. Each round is shown on a separate line. The icon turns white once the colonist is picked up, and an X is marked through anyone who is killed.

Hunter Strategy

Move to the survivors quickly, using the distance to decide priority. Maggie and Lazarus are good choices for this mode. Maggie’s pet Trapjaw assists in reviving the survivors, and Lazarus can bring them back after bleeding out. Caira can also be very useful with her Adrenaline Field.

Survivors can be a pain when you’re attempting to lead them to the extraction point. If Hunters stand around, the colonists also stand around. Have the group move to the shuttle to encourage them along. During this stage, Hank is extremely valuable, as he can shield any survivors who get in trouble.

Set traps around the extraction point to keep the Monster at bay. Markov’s Arc Mines and Bucket’s Sentry Guns work well here. Hank’s Orbital Barrage at the point of extraction helps keep the enemy away, too.

Monster Strategy

The Monster must make a tough decision at the start of a game of Rescue. Quickly move over to the first survivors and risk confronting the Hunters at Stage 1, or let them have the first two while you feed up to Stage 2. For most people, the latter is the best choice. Facing the Hunters too early can be extremely tough for any Monster.

Once you’ve achieved Stage 2, immediately head for the next survivors, and start attacking as soon as they are within range. To make the kills easier, try to isolate the survivors as they head for the extraction point.
