Five players participate in a game of Evolve, but it is possible to play alone, with AI bots controlling the other characters. You can also play with a team of friends and AI bots together. Be careful, though, as gameplay against and with humans differs greatly from playing with computer-controlled players.
Playing Solo is great for getting used to the game and learning the various equipment and abilities. Figuring out how to use each character and the best combinations is invaluable when you take your game online. No matter which way you play, you still level up and unlock characters and Perks.
You may have figured out the computer’s tendencies and learned how to defeat it consistently, but going up against real people is a whole new ballgame. With gameplay that is much more unpredictable and the ability to communicate, a team of four Hunters presents many more challenges to the Monster.
When playing as a Hunter with a computer-controlled team, the group tends to stick with the player and waits for him or her to make a move. Play with one friend and two AI teammates, and the computer characters split up and follow each player. Team up with three human Hunters, though, and everyone may go their own way (which can be a worthwhile tactic under certain circumstances).
The game is best played with the ability to communicate. Using headsets to talk amongst your teammates is crucial when going up against a skilled Monster. Tag and call out everything you encounter, and be sure to speak up when you need assistance.
Post Game
After each game, the players are awarded with experience based on any completed Awards and Accolades. Earn enough XP, and the player moves up to the next level and unlocks a Perk.
Progress toward your Character Mastery is displayed next. For Hunters, this involves using your three non-class specific skills or weapons. Monsters must use all four abilities to complete their mastery. Every time a star, or tier, is completed, you are rewarded with an improvement to that weapon or ability. New characters, badge pieces, and skins are also unlocked as you do so.
