Dropship
The Monster always gets a 30-second head start before the Hunters are released from the dropship. This gives it time to get away from the drop zone and start feeding. The team drops in and immediately prepares to track the beast. Quickly look for tracks, or if Daisy is present, follow her lead.
After a Hunter dies, he or she must wait for the next dropship, which by default arrives every two minutes. In Defend mode, dropships arrive more often. Reviving a player gives a strike penalty to the maximum health. Lazarus can keep teammates from having strikes by using his Lazarus Device, which will keep them off the dropship. Once a Hunter has strikes, only the Medbay map effect can remove them.
Run/Sprint
Moving your character in Evolve is similar to any other first-person game. By default, the Left Stick or the W, A, S, D keys on the keyboard are used to run. The Right Stick or mouse movement causes the Hunter to look around.
Jump
With a press of the Jump button, the Hunter bounds into the air. This is great for clearing short distances or hopping over an obstacle.
Jet Pack
Each Hunter is equipped with a Jet Pack that allows them to move higher and farther through the air. However, any use depletes the Jet Pack fuel, as the meter on the right side of the screen indicates. It is best to conserve fuel when hunting the Monster and go into a fight with as close to a full meter as possible.
Press the Jump button a second time while in the air to use the Jet Pack and travel even farther. Hold the button down to reach greater heights.
Jet Climb
Even with an empty Jet Pack, you can still climb up a vertical surface, albeit very slowly. Move in close to the wall, and hold down the Jump button to rise to the top. Be sure to hold in the direction you want to climb.
Jet Dodge, Jet Thrust
Double tap the Jump button while pressing left, right, or down to perform a Jet Dodge in that direction. This is very helpful in combat, allowing you to avoid incoming attacks. It’s especially helpful against slower attacks, like Goliath’s Rock Throw.
Performing this maneuver while pressing forward is called a Jet Thrust. This allows you to cover more ground when moving to a location. This is best used when the Monster is far away. Conserve fuel as you approach your target so that you go into a fight better prepared to dodge any attacks.
Conserving Fuel
Learning when to use your Jet Pack and when to conserve your fuel is very crucial for both the hunt and for battling the Monster. When in pursuit of the beast, it is good to always have some fuel in reserve to avoid getting stranded at the base of a cliff and forced to ascend via a slow Jet Climb.
When hunting the Monster, combine regular jumps with Jet Pack use to conserve your fuel. For example, to cross a big gap, jump off the cliff, and just as you start to drop, use a little Jet Pack. Repeat this process until you reach the other side.
Jet Pack fuel in battle is even more important than in the hunt. If you are unable to dodge a Kraken’s Lightning Strike, you are a sitting duck; unless you have a shield ready, you are immediately struggling to stay upright. Watch for the Monster to ready an ability, and use the Jet Pack to dodge out of the line of attack.
Mark Waypoint
By pressing the Mark Waypoint button, a location can be noted for the rest of the group. Depending on what you mark, a specific colored dot is placed that the other Hunters can see. There are three possible markings, as noted by the following table.
Waypoint Markers
| Yellow | General |
| Orange | Wildlife |
| Red | Monster |
Whenever you spot wildlife or the Monster, mark them so your team knows what to expect. Only a few dots can be placed at a time, so be careful in populated areas.
