Defend

Hunter Objective: Defend Generators and Ship until It Takes Off, or Kill the Alpha Monster

Monster Objective:Destroy the Generators and Ship before the Timers Run Out

A transport ship refuels as a Stage 3 Alpha Monster and two minions enter the area. The Hunters must defend the generator from the bad guys for six minutes. If the Hunters can keep the generator going as the timer runs out, they win. Otherwise, if it is taken out, access is given to a second generator.

Three minutes are added to the timer as the enemies move toward the next objective. Again, if the timer hits zero with the generator surviving, the Hunters win. If the Monsters destroy both objectives, doors are opened to the power source. Another three minutes are added as everyone moves toward the final objective.

The same objectives hold for the third and final target. If the power source survives through the rest of the timer, the Hunters win. If it is destroyed, the Monster wins.

The dropship returns dead Hunters to the game every 30 seconds instead of the normal two minutes. A message appears on screen for a character who bleeds out as the dropship shows up. Pressing the given button immediately sends the Hunter to the shuttle. Even if the entire team is wiped out, they all return on the next ship.

Once the minions are defeated, a timer counts down until another duo is hatched. These guys appear at the start for the first generator and then at the last destroyed objective.

Turrets around each objective assist the Hunters against the minions and Monster.

Hunter Strategy

For a short time at the start of the match, the Monsters are in the distance, making their way to the first generator. There are three lanes for them to enter. Set up traps along each one to slow them down. As they get closer, protect the generators with the traps. Markov’s Arc Mines eat away at the minions as they move toward the next objective.

Since the dropship shows up more frequently in Defend mode, it is less important to revive teammates. It is often better to let them bleed out and continue fending off the minions and Monsters. Call out to teammates if you want a revive or not. Due to the increased dropship frequency, Lazarus is not a good choice for Defend.

Kraken may be the best choice for the Monster, which means that Val is great as the Medic. Her Tranquilizer Gun knocks the giant out of the air and slows it down.

As the Trapper, meet up with the incoming Alpha Monster at least 60 meters away from the generator, and put up the Mobile Arena. The generator must still be defended from any untrapped minions, so have others stay behind.

Monster Strategy

The Monster starts out at Stage 3. Load up on your favorite abilities, and use this power to your advantage. Kraken is a great choice for Defend. He is quick, better armored than Wraith, and his long-range attacks work well on the turrets.

Wait for the minions before going after the generators. Let them attack the objectives while Kraken harasses the Hunters. Once you’ve taken care of the minions, pull out, and wait for the next helpers. Get in some shots at the generators whenever the opportunity arises, but it is better to have the minions there.

Defend Maps

Defend mode takes place on four special maps instead of the usual 12. These include Colonial Water & Power, King’s Fort, New Calico, and Salveron Industries. Get more information about each in the Maps chapter.
