Charge
Activating Charge causes Goliath to rush forward at a high rate of speed, dealing damage and knockback. You can use Charge to separate Hunters or push them into a better position during a fight. Since the Hunters get sent tumbling, it makes them easier to target for a follow-up Leap Smash or Rock Throw. When hunting, use Charge to quickly close the distance and dispatch a small group of creatures. Although Charge is mainly an offensive ability, you can also use it to quickly escape from the Hunters or dodge a Mobile Arena that’s about to go down.
Fire Breath
Fire Breath spits a jet of liquid flame that deals damage to Hunters for a short period of time. Although some may argue that this ability lacks offensive power, you can effectively use it to counter some of the Hunters’ deployable weapons, like Markov’s Arc Mines or Maggie’s Harpoon Traps. If the Hunters are being cloaked, use this ability to set them on fire, revealing their location for the time that they are on fire. Hunters near water cause this ability to be much less effective. In that scenario, try using a Charge to push them away from the water before activating Fire Breath.
Leap Smash
Goliath’s strong legs enable him to leap into the air, unleashing a devastating jump attack that deals splash damage where it lands. If you catch a group of Hunters sticking a little too close together, activate Leap Smash to initiate contact from any direction. If you have no special movement Leaps, you can use Leap Smash for a quick getaway in a bind. Be sure to clear any traps before leap smashing into an area, as Goliath is still vulnerable to attacks while in the air and landing.
Rock Throw
Hunters may think they are safe when flying through the air against Goliath; they couldn’t be more wrong. Ripping a huge boulder from the earth, Goliath launches it into the air, doing splash damage to the target location. Although it takes some skill to throw the boulder accurately, there are small things you can do to increase the chances of a direct hit. For example, using Charge to send enemies tumbling, then following up with a Rock Throw to the location they are tumbling to prevents them from being able to dodge the attack.
Special Movement Ability: Leap
Goliath’s Leap is his best tool for evading Hunters. When used off of taller objects, Goliath can cover great distances in a single bound. For most effective use, aim slightly above the horizon line (center point). If aimed too high or too low, Goliath will not travel as much distance, effectively wasting a stamina bar.
To evade the Hunters, take a long Leap into some water. Landing in water leaves no tracks for the Hunters to detect the direction you have jumped in. Simply sneak out of the water, and the Hunters will have no idea in which direction this gigantic Monster went.
