Mario Party 9 eGuide Walkthrough Minigame Modes

Garden Battle

Garden Battle is a unique minigame mode in which each player must fill their own square plot of soil with special plant blocks. But before anyone can get their hands dirty, they’ve got to compete in exciting minigames!

Each round of Garden Battle begins with a challenging Free-for-All minigame. Do your best to achieve victory in every minigame event—it’ll help you fill your garden with flora!

When a minigame ends, the players get to choose plant blocks from a big ol’ cart that’s wheeled into the garden. The plant blocks are randomly arranged into clusters of different shapes and sizes, and some clusters will be much larger than others.

Whoever earned first place during the minigame gets first pick of the plant blocks. The minigame’s second-place finisher gets to choose their blocks second, and so on.

This is a big benefit to the minigames’ victors, because getting the pick of the litter helps them pack their plots much faster than their peers!

When it’s your turn to select a group of plant blocks, it’s usually best to take the biggest cluster available.

Simply point at the desired group of blocks and press A to pick them up, then point to where you’d like to plant them in your plot and press A again to confirm.

Try not to leave any odd gaps when placing your blocks in your soil plot, or you’ll have to win significantly more minigames to fill out your garden.

Twist the Wii Remote while placing your blocks to line them up just how you like.

When Garden Battle events get down to the nitty-gritty, it pays to start playing dirty.

Plant blocks can only be placed if there’s room for them to fit, so spy your rival’s soil plots and look to steal the smaller block clusters that they need as their plot fills up.

Leave your rivals with nothing but big groups of blocks that won’t fit inside their plots, and they won’t be able to plant a thing!

The player who’s first to fill out their plot with plant blocks wins the Garden Battle event. If that’s you, be sure to stop and smell the roses!
