Mario Party 9 Guide › Walkthrough › Minigame Modes

Free Play

Free Play mode lets you jump straight into any minigame in Mario Party 9’s massive library—no muss, no fuss.

Simply pick a minigame category from the four tabs along the top of the screen to view the entire catalogue of minigames that fall into that particular group.

Move the cursor across all those little screens, and each minigame’s name will pop up in a word bubble. Choose the one you want to play, configure the number of players, and start partying!

Note

The “Minigames” chapter of this guide has been organized to pair nicely with Free Play mode.

All of the games are grouped by category in that chapter, so it’s easy to find the one you’d like to learn more about. Click back a few sections and see for yourself!

Free Play mode shows you how many minigames there are to explore, and it helps you keep track of the ones you’ve played.

Any time you play a certain minigame in one of Mario Party 9’s myriad of game modes, that minigame will receive a check mark in Free Play mode to indicate that you’ve played it before.

This lets you quickly find the games you’ve yet to play!

Note

Two minigames won’t appear in Free Play mode until you purchase Mario Party 9’s lone hidden board, DK’s Jungle Ruins.

These are the special minigames that Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong have in store for you.

Unlock DK’s Jungle Ruins by purchasing it at the Museum, and you’ll find these two special games under Free Play mode’s Boss Battles tab.
