Whomp Stomp

How to Play

Hold the Wii Remote vertically. Press left or right on D-Pad to select 0 or 1 turns of the platform.
While standing on Whomp, press A to jump and A again to ground-pound.

In this unique boss battle, each player must choose how many turns they wish to move around the central platform.

Hold the Wii Remote vertically and press right to move one turn, or press left to remain stationary. The idea is to pick a number that won’t cause you to wind up underneath the background space, upon which Whomp comes crashing down after each turn. This is easier said than done, because you never know how many turns the platform will take. Everyone’s choice is a secret!

When playing with four players, one unlucky soul will always wind up next to Whomp. This poor fellow is in for a nasty smashing! Each time Whomp comes crashing down on a player, they lose one point. Think about what your rivals might be picking and try not to end up under Whomp!

The remaining players who were not crushed by Whomp have a chance to score some points. Whomp falls face-first when he slams the ground, leaving his back exposed. Hurry and ground-pound him by pressing 2 to jump and 2 again in midair! Each successful ground-pound earns you three points, making this a high-scoring contest.

Note

The player who lands on the left space will have the least amount of time to ground-pound Whomp, while the player who lands on the right space has the most time. Don’t wait for rivals to climb onto Whomp’s back—start ground-pounding the moment you hop up there!

Tip

Hammer 2 as fast as you can to perform short ground-pounds that take less time. You can ground-pound Whomp up to four times if you’re quick!

Eventually, Whomp will become irate and slam the center of the platform, increasing the turn count before anyone can choose how many turns they wish to move. Keep this in mind and continue to outthink your rivals in an effort to avoid being pancaked.
