Mario Party 9 eGuide Essentials How to Play

Game Modes

Before we get to the really good stuff, let’s take a big-picture view of what’s in store for you in Mario Party 9.

Topics in this chapter include a look at the different game modes and Main Menu options, along with an overview of everything you’ll see and do when rolling around those beloved Mario Party game boards.

The Main Menu. It’s so...main!

Mario Party 9 boasts a myriad of game modes and special secrets. Let’s take a look at your first slew of options—the Main Menu!

Solo Mode

One of the first things you should do in Mario Party 9 is play through the adventure-packed Solo mode.

This fun and engaging story mode will familiarize you with many of Mario Party 9’s nuances while also earning you valuable Party Points, which you use to unlock special prizes at the Museum.

Beating Solo mode will unlock special boards, game modes, and hidden characters for play in other modes. Skip ahead to the “Let’s Party” section for an overview of how Solo mode games are played.

Party Mode

Party mode is a lot like Solo mode, except you get to play with friends instead of COM (computer-controlled) rivals. Up to four players can participate in Party mode, and you can choose to play on any game board you like.

If you’re short on buddies, you can also fill any open spots with COM rivals to pack your party full of characters! Skim ahead to the “Let’s Party” section to learn the ins and outs of traditional Party mode games.

Minigames

When you’re tired of rolling around those lengthy game boards, click the Main Menu’s Minigames button to visit the Minigames menu.

Here, you can cut to the chase and choose to play Mario Party 9’s array of fun and imaginative minigames in all sorts of new and exciting ways!

Refer to the “Minigames” and “Minigame Modes” chapters of this guide to learn all about every minigame and the special game modes that are available at the Minigames menu.

Extras

As if all those different game boards and Minigame modes weren’t enough, you can also visit the Extras menu to play a small assortment of exciting bonus games!

These special Extras are great little diversions that boast a bit more depth than the traditional minigame. Check out the “Extras” chapter of this guide to learn all about these cool modes!

Museum

Is there anything Toad doesn’t run around here?

After you’ve amassed a respectable amount of Party Points, pop into the Museum to explore all of the unlockable content that awaits you. Spend your hard-earned Party Points on the various prizes here to gain the goodies you want most!
