Ever feel like that Goomba Bowling minigame is over before it really begins? Well, visit the Extras menu, and you can play an enhanced version of this minigame favorite! When playing the Extras version of Goomba Bowling, you get to play a complete game of five frames, and each player gets two shots per frame to knock down as many Goombas as possible. The player with the highest score at the end of the five frames wins!
The nuts and bolts of Goomba Bowling remain the same as the minigame—the only differences are in the details. Take care in setting up your shots by studying how the Goombas are moving. The more out of sync the Goombas are stomping, the more drastically you’ll need to adjust your angle. Consider how quickly the Goombas are shuffling as well—the faster they move, the more angle you need to add in order to compensate.
Because you get two throws instead of just one, you’re able to score bonus points by picking up spares. A spare occurs whenever you manage to knock down every lingering Goomba on your second throw. Don’t worry if you didn’t manage to whack every Goomba on your first try—you always get a second chance to pick up that spare!
There are 20 Goombas to hit, each one being worth one point. However, by picking up a spare on your second throw, you earn 10 bonus points in addition to the 20 you get from hitting all of the Goombas. That’s 30 points in just one frame!
Of course, the best throw you can make in Goomba Bowling is that elusive strike. Knock down all 20 Goombas on your first toss, and you’ll get double points for each one. That’s right: 40 points will be added to your score each time you make a strike! This is the best you can possibly do during a frame, so the highest score you can manage in Goomba Bowling is 200 by making a strike on every frame.
Goomba Bowling is a blast as a minigame, but it’s even more fun to play from the Extras menu. Practice picking up those spares until you gain a familiarity for the game, then start scoring those high-value strikes!
