Doom eGuide Multiplayer Combat Prep

XP, Levels, and Customization

At the conclusion of every match, you will receive two random Hack Modules. Then, you’re shown a rundown of the XP that you earned through gameplay, earning of commendations, and via bonuses. All of this XP serves to increase your level. For every level that you increase, two additional random awards are bestowed upon you.

There are a total of 50 levels in 10 different Echelons (players technically begin in Echelon 0). You need 227,000 total XP to reach Level 50, and then, with a total of 232,000 XP, you will reach Echelon 1, Level 1. You need a total of 2,727,000 XP to reach the level cap at Echelon 10, Level 50. The Roman numeral in a small box next to your level number signifies which Echelon you are at. Echelons and levels are an indicator of a player’s skill and the amount of time that person has spent playing DOOM. The system also awards those who diversify their techniques and master numerous weapons and play modes. Be sure to consult the lengthy series of tables in the “Challenges, Medals, and Commendations” chapter to see how you can earn enormous piles of bonus XP!

Customization Options

Hack Modules are the only type of award that has an impact on gameplay, but there are hundreds of other awards to collect and help you stand out in a crowd of red-and-blue Doom Marines. Access the Customization screen in the Multiplayer Lobby to begin customizing your character’s appearance and the appearance of the weaponry. Though this won’t be clear during gameplay, your character’s unique style will be proudly on display if you reach the podium and finish in the top three of scoring in any match.

Character Armor: There are 60 different varieties of Helmet, Torso, Left Arm, Right Arm, Legs, and Base Armor spread across five different styles (UAC, Demonic, Utilitarian, Templar, and Bounty Hunter). This makes for thousands of different possible combinations.

Colors: There are 96 different colors for both primary and secondary paint schemes, available in matte, glossy, and metallic styles.

Patterns: There are 62 different patterns that can be applied to your character, ranging from Abstract to Camo to Symbols. Each of the colors in these two-tone patterns can be assigned any of the 96 different colors you’ve unlocked.

Details: Finally, you can adjust the degree of cleanliness of the armor by adding dirt or scratches.

Weapon Customization: You can apply any of the unlocked colors and patterns to your weaponry, as well. It’s possible to individually customize each of the 11 standard weapons in DOOM.

Taunts: There are 150 different Taunts that you can map to any of four Taunt buttons. Taunts are divided into the following categories: Dance, Celebration, Humor, and Mock. And the only thing funnier than a Taunt is watching a player get sniped mid-Taunt.
