There are a total of six multiplayer modes, each of which pits two teams against one another. Teams can have as many as six players each. You can select gameplay modes individually, or you can choose an Objective Based or Round Based playlist. You can find map-specific tips for each mode in the Multiplayer Maps chapter of this guide.
Round Based Modes
Clan Arena
Kill enemy players to win. Victory is awarded to the first team to win three rounds.
Clan Arena is a very fast-paced game that requires significant skill and teamwork. There is no margin for error, as each player is granted only one life. Clan Arena is played without pickups or demons, and without Hack Modules enabled. It is pure combat; you have just 100 Health, 100 Armor, two weapons, and a piece of equipment. Make it count!
Freeze Tag
Freeze enemies and thaw your teammates. Victory is awarded to the first team to win three rounds.
Freeze Tag is a modified version of Clan Arena. Players still get only one life to live, but instead of being killed, they are frozen in place. Teammates can “thaw” their frozen allies by staying within the vicinity of the chilled victim for 3.5 seconds. You can also knock them into hazards or off cliffs, which causes them to respawn thawed. All powerups, pickups, and Hack Modules are in play during Freeze Tag. What truly makes this mode unique is that you can slide frozen enemies across the map with weapon fire.
Objective Based Modes
Domination
Control the zones to win. Victory is awarded to the first team to reach the score limit or have the higher score when the timer expires.
Capture any of the three Control Points by standing within the zone for eight seconds while keeping the opposition out of it. Captures take place faster if multiple teammates are in the same zone. A Control Point with members of both teams inside it is said to be “contested,” and the Capture meter will not fill until one team is in sole possession of the zone. Teams are awarded a point for each Control Point in their possession every second. The announcer will keep you apprised of which zones are being contested and controlled, and by which team. Similarly, the color-coded indicators in the upper-left corner of the screen show the status of each Control Point. All powerups, pickups, and Hack Modules are in play during Domination.
Soul Harvest
Kill enemies and capture their Souls. Victory is awarded to the first team to reach the Soul count limit or have more Souls collected when time expires.
Soul Harvest is similar to Team Deathmatch, except each player drops a Soul upon death. The only way to accumulate points is to collect the Souls dropped by your opposition while trying to prevent them from
collecting those that your teammates dropped. Humans drop one Soul when killed by another human, but they drop two Souls if a demon kills them. Demons drop four Souls when killed. The first player to die in Soul Harvest will drop a Demon Rune, and each subsequent slaying of a demon drops another Demon Rune that becomes active several seconds after death. Consequently, you can expect a demon to be on the loose at all times in Soul Harvest. Be on the lookout for Souls that are the color of your team, and collect them to deny your opponent a score.
Team Deathmatch
Kill enemy players to win. Victory is awarded to the first team to reach the kill limit or have more kills when the timer expires.
Out of all of the multiplayer modes, Team Deathmatch is the most straightforward. Two teams compete to be the first to accumulate the target number of kills. All powerups, power weapons, Demon Runes, and Hack Modules are in play. Teams are awarded one point for every enemy killed. Players respawn quickly, with a chance to change loadouts and Hack Modules between respawns. Teamwork is important, but there is room for improvisation, particularly if you’re a skilled player. Stay on the move, gather the pickups along the way, and collect as many kills as you can. If neither team reaches the target score, the team with the most kills when time expires is the winner.
Warpath
Control the moving zone to win. Victory is awarded to the first team to reach the score limit or have the higher score when the timer expires.
Warpath is similar to Domination, except both teams must fight over a single Control Point that follows a visible path that winds its way through the map. The Control Point takes eight seconds to capture (or less time with teammates), and the arrows along the path will indicate in which direction it is moving. Unique to this mode is that the Demon Rune will also spawn on the Warpath and migrate around the map with the path, as well, typically staying at the opposite side of the path from the Control Point. The direction of the Control Point is chosen randomly at the start of the match. The match is over when one team meets the target score (one point per second controlled) or when time expires.
