DOOM revolves around intense combat against horde after horde of demons.
Weapons
While you are always “armed” with your melee ability (R3), the real power lies in the guns, equipment, and chainsaw. For a full breakdown on all the weapons, visit the Weaponry section of this guide!
Weapon Wheel
To activate your weapon wheel, hold down RB/R1, then use the Right Stick to decide which weapon you would like to select.
When the weapon wheel is up, time slows down, allowing you extra time to select weapons. To quickly swap between your last two weapons, just tap RB/R1.
Chainsaw
The chainsaw can kill most enemies without help from any other weapons.
Press X/Square to activate your chainsaw, then use LT/L2 to rev it up and RT/R2 to attack. Killing an enemy with the chainsaw causes them to spew out ammo from their corpse.
BFG
The BFG is a powerful weapon that delivers streams of supercharged Argent plasma to multiple targets and is somewhat self-guiding. To equip the BFG, press Y/Triangle.
Firing the BFG is as easy as aiming and pressing RT/R2. Use this weapon against groups of enemies to make the most of each shot as ammo is rare.
Equipment
There are three different types of equipment in the game. To cycle through your available options, press DPAD-Right or DPAD-Left.
Frag Grenade
Your standard grenade, it does explosive damage in a small radius. Basically it goes “Boom!”
Hologram
Activating the Hologram spawns a clone of the Doom Marine to distract the Demons while you get into a better position to fight.
Siphon Grenade
When thrown, the Siphon Grenade spawns a dome that steals health from all enemies inside. All health stolen immediately heals the player.
Glory Kills
Glory kills are a great way to finish off enemies and keep your health up.
When enemies lose enough health, they enter a crippled state and begin to flash blue. Move in close until you see them start to flash orange, then press the Melee button to perform a Glory Kill. These always drop health.
There are multiple types of Glory Kills. Attack a crippled enemy from above, behind, and head-on to perform each variety.
