World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor Signature Series Strategy Guide › PROFESSIONS › GARRISON BUILDINGS AND PROFESSIONS

Overview

Garrison Buildings and Professions

Professions in Warlords of Draenor are simultaneously more streamlined to learn and more accessible than ever before—and it’s all because of Garrisons.

Gathering Materials

In addition to small buildings centered on Professions, your Garrison will also eventually unlock an Herb Garden and a Mine. Both of these structures will require you to complete a quest to unlock them, but once they are unlocked, you will be able to gather both Draenor herbs and Draenor ore, even if you do not have Herbalism or Mining as one of your Professions. Although the yield from these structures is nowhere near as prolific as going out in the world and gathering the materials with the appropriate Profession, this still means that you’ll be able to remain reasonably self-sufficient when you are crafting goods.

Buildings and Crafting

Your Garrison can hold up to three small buildings, and many of these small buildings are directly related to Professions. If you have both a learned Profession and possess a building that specializes in that same Profession, that means you can craft and produce fun and valuable items fairly quickly. It also means that you have access to the highest, best possible tiers of crafting recipes.

However, you have a choice to make. If you wish, you can create small buildings that center on Professions that you have not learned. By doing so, you gain access to materials and items that you ordinarily would not be able to craft on your own—the workers in your Garrison will craft these items for you. This means that you won’t need to rely on other crafters to create items for you while you are leveling; you can simply do so in your Garrison. But there’s a catch—your Garrison workers cannot craft the highest, best possible items. Those are reserved solely for players that have trained that Profession and learned the appropriate recipes.

This might seem like a difficult decision to make, but keep in mind that your Garrison buildings are not static. You can change your mind and replace a building with another building at any point. It will cost you to do so, but this flexibility means that you can try out as many different Professions as you’d like. The choice is yours!
