World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor Signature Series Strategy Guide PROFESSIONS CRAFTING

Leatherworking

Leatherworking

Leatherworking uses leather and hides gathered from slain beasts to create different pieces of armor, as well as fun items that players can use. In Warlords of Draenor, there’s even a mount that can be crafted via Leatherworking! There are no special tools required for Leatherworking, save for the Salt Shaker needed to cure certain lower level hides. Some Leatherworking patterns require items purchased from trade vendors.

PRACTICING LEATHERWORKING

The mechanics behind Leatherworking are fairly simple. This Profession is typically used in conjunction with Skinning. Hides and leather that are skinned from various creatures around Azeroth are combined to create various pieces of armor, or items that can enhance the performance of lower-level players.

DRAENOR LEATHERWORKING

Leatherworking in Draenor is a vastly different experience than on Azeroth. One of your primary ingredients for creating any armor or items is Burnished Leather. This leather can be created through a daily cooldown, but it can also be created via Work Orders processed at the Tannery. Thus, if you have both the Tannery, and Leatherworking trained as a Profession, you’ll be able to craft useful upgrades much more quickly.

Recipes learned in Draenor can be learned and created at skill level 1. However, there are also other methods of leveling Blacksmithing quickly while on Draenor. As you quest and complete content, you may find various tattered and torn leather items that can be combined with Draenor hides and turned in to your Garrison, in exchange for Garrison Resources. There are also Uncommon and Rare versions of these items that need no repair; you can simply return them to your Garrison. These items will also grant you skill points when they are turned in.

MAKING MONEY AS A LEATHERWORKER

Leatherworkers don’t have extensive sales, but they also don’t need to invest as heavily in their Profession. Anyone with Leatherworking and Skinning should have an easy time, especially due to the nature of Skinning. It’s easy to find creatures that are skinnable, so reagents are somewhat cheap and plentiful. Leatherworkers can craft both Mail and Leather armor to sell, as well as cloaks that any class can wear. The Epic quality versions of these items can be upgraded up to two times, which makes them far more valuable to players looking for gear upgrades. Typically speaking, Leatherworkers shouldn’t really expect to make a massive amount of income from their chosen Profession.
