Batman: Arkham Knight Guide › Waynetech Arsenal

Standard Movement

Abilities Movement

Left Stick Move
Left Stick + / Run/Climb/Glide
R2 / RT Crouch

Traverse the streets and rooftops of Gotham City with ease. While running, you automatically climb over obstacles, jump between structures, and launch into a Glide. When crouched, movement is quick and silent, making this a very useful tactic for a stealthy approach.

Glide

Hold / while airborne Glide
Left Stick Steer glide

When gliding, your cape takes on a rigid form, allowing you full control of pitch and yaw. Mastering this move, in combination with the Dive Bomb, is key to moving quickly and effectively around Gotham City’s streets. If you glide directly into a wall, you can kick off into another glide. From a glide you can also grapple to a perch, Grapnel Boost right past the perch into another glide, initiate a Glide Kick or Car Takedown on foes below, or create a perch in place with Line Launcher Tightrope. Certain upgrades allow particular Gadgets to be fired while gliding.

Line Launcher Tightrope

Press in and hold Left Stick while gliding or tap R1 while zipping with the Line Launcher

Create Line Launcher Perch

This upgrade to the Line Launcher enables you to use the zip line as a tightrope. This can be used to create new positions to observe and attack enemies, or to collect Riddler trophies. While on the cable, you can move above an enemy to perform a Drop Attack, Glide Kick, or Takedown.

Evade

Left Stick + / Evade

Use Evade to quickly dodge attacks and gunfire, reducing damage sustained while in combat. You can also evade through glass or over railings. When Batman’s combat intuition shows red indicators above a charging thug’s head, their grapple attempt cannot be Countered. You need to get out of the way by Evading, or K.O. the approaching thug with a Quickfired Batarang to the noggin. Evading can also be useful when enemies bring guns to a fistfight, though you won’t be able to dodge gunfire forever, so you’ll still need to stun, disarm, or K.O. gunfighters as soon as possible. You can Evade during a FreeFlow Combo and keep the Combo going as long as you do some other action when the Evasion move recovers. If you happen to Evade right into an enemy, you flip over their heads with a Redirect instead.

Detective Mode

Tap Up on D-Pad Toggle Detective Mode

Gain an immediate tactical analysis of the current location, identifying potential threats, even through solid walls. Enemies carrying firearms are highlighted in orange. All other personnel in the vicinity are highlighted in blue. This scan mode also highlights items of interest in the environment, providing information via a direct connection to the Batcomputer.

Environmental Analysis

Hold Up on D-Pad Environmental Analysis

The Environmental Analysis can be used to scan the solutions to riddles, as well as Riddler trophies. If these are currently unobtainable, adding their locations to the map screen allows you to return and collect them later.

Grapnel

R1 / RB Grapple

The Grapnel is an essential part of your navigation equipment. To use it, simply look at any ledge and fire the Grapnel to move there almost instantly. While running or gliding, the Grapnel continuously targets the nearest valid ledge, meaning this move can be used at almost any time. The Grapnel also enables Grapnel Boosts, which contribute greatly to Batman’s ability to travel quickly throughout Gotham City.

Grapnel Targeting

Hold L2 / LT while gliding Aim

Quickly locate your nearest available Grapnel point while running or gliding. Keep the Grapnel engaged and chain multiple points together to traverse fluidly and reach high Vantage Points.

Grapnel Boost

/ and hold while grappling Boost

When grappling over medium to long distances, this gadget boosts the speed of the grapple, launching you high into the air above the target point. Combine this move with the Dive and Glide maneuvers to cover long distances without ever touching the ground. Ejecting from the Batmobile can provide a similar function.

Grapnel Boost Mk II

/ and hold while grappling Boost

The gadget upgrade boosts the speed of the grapple, launching you higher and further into the air above the target point. When combined with the Dive and Glide maneuvers vast distances can be covered swiftly, greatly reducing travel times.
