Batman: Arkham Knight Guide › Most Wanted Side Missions

Heir to the Cowl

First Available: Chapter 3

Main Objective: Investigate suspicious figure on Kingston rooftop

Location: Starts on Miagani Island, Kingston

Most Wanted Villain: Unknown

Reward: 8 Upgrade Points, 1 for Trials 1-3, 2 for Trial 4, and 3 for Completing Finale

After investigating the crashed SUV in Chapter 3, Alfred informs Batman of an interloper who stands on a rooftop next to a burning bat symbol. The suspicious man needs to be investigated. Azrael offers to give up his killing ways and take over the reins of Gotham’s savior. Batman decides to test him with four combat trials. Fight as Michael Lane against increasingly more difficult groups of virtual combatants. Defeat each challenge without being hit to move on to the next trial.

Trial 1: Just the Beginning

Location: Miagani Island, Kingston, rooftop west of Bank of Gotham

Requirement: Investigate SUV

Travel to Kingston and grapple to the roof of the Gambis building, west of the Bank of Gotham and across the street from the parking garage. Talk to the kneeling man to begin the side mission. Only six thugs need to be defeated for the first trial, though remember, you cannot take a hit. The requirement is only to avoid enemy strikes. It does not matter how you do it. If you only counter and strike the entire fight, while redirecting any charging foes, you succeed. Their melee weapons can be used against them. Completing the challenge unlocks the second trial on Founders’ Island.

Trial 2: Showing Great Skill

Location: Founders’ Island, Otisburg, south of Fire Station

Requirement: Complete Trial 1

Drive or glide to the lone building in Otisburg, south of the fire station, and grapple to the roof to present the possible successor with his second trial. Seven thugs and a brute appear ahead. Watch out for thrown objects or melee weapons. One hit and the challenge must be repeated. Just as with Batman, a cape stun and beat down takes care of the big enemy. A well-timed special takedown also does the trick.

Trial 3: A Competent Warrior

Location: Bleake Island, Chinatown, west of traffic circle

Requirement: Complete Trial 2

Travel to Chinatown and spot the burning bat symbol on a rooftop, west of the traffic circle. This challenges places Azrael against 10 soldiers and a medic. The use of trained militia is quite the step up from the street thugs. Watch out for the medic to charge a teammate. Use the Remote Electrical Charge to knock him down or use a Counter Throw on him. Watch out for incoming attacks as you pummel the foe.

Trial 4: The Final Challenge

Location: Lady of Gotham Island

Requirement: Complete Trial 3

Glide out to Lady of Gotham and speak with Lane to begin his final challenge atop the statue. Six combat experts face off against the crusader. These ninjas attack directly with their sword or in a team-up maneuver where one jumps off another’s shoulders. Both can be countered. A third move swings the sword hard to the side and can only be avoided with a Blade Dodge. Defeat the six combatants to complete the last of the trials, collecting another two upgrade points.

Finale: Reconstructing Memories

Location: Bleake Island, Chinatown, Clock Tower

Requirement: Complete Trial 4

Grapple to the Clock Tower roof and drop through the secret access. Use the console to look into the data on Michael Lane. Batman visualizes his memories with the Batcomputer, but it appears they have been tampered with. Scrub through the video and scan in the four unique Order of San Dumas Lithographs. You are looking for the following at the given time stamps:

00:00:00 Start of the memory sequence

00:05:55 Banner in between baby and child scenes

00:16:44 Shoulder of football jersey

00:28:92 Shield of jouster

00:41:31 Shortly after crime scene tape

With the memory reconstructed, turn around and pick up the sword that sits on a display next to the elevator. Approach Batman where a decision must be made. Depending on the choice made, you are either free to explore Gotham from the Clock Tower or you must drive Azrael to GCPDLockup.
