This AR Challenge cannot be unlocked until Lucius Fox activates the Afterburner function on the Batmobile, which fortunately happens very quickly into this dark night. Once Afterburner is available, find one of many sloped surfaces off which to ramp at high speed. Sail at least 50 meters through the air and this Challenge becomes available. Note that there’s also a Trophy/an Achievement for ramping 50 meters off eight different spots, and that Gotham City has dozens of sloped spots ripe for Afterburner launching.
Since you can’t Counter as a tank, avoiding hits is even more important than it is on foot. Make liberal use of the dodge thrusters to get out of the path of incoming shells.
This is a pure score attack against a fleet of Rattler drones. These light tanks come equipped with a standard tank turret capable of dumbfiring explosive shells at high velocity. The Batcomputer predicts the paths of enemy shells and displays them while you maneuver in Battle Mode, allowing you to preemptively dodge against Rattler fire. Tanks target and fire in a rhythm—be ready to use dodge thrusters when enemy tank vectors are visible, then draw a bead and blast a turret before the next round of shots starts. Not only does this keep the Batmobile in full armor, but it also allows you to perpetuate a tank Combo, which builds your score multiplier and contributes to Secondary Weapon energy. As in FreeFlow combat, take a hit and your multiplier resets. You’ll also lose the tank Combo if you wait about eight seconds between tank hits. The inactivity grace period is much more lenient in tank combat than in hand to hand.
There are several waves of Rattlers to destroy before this tank battle is over. Always keep moving, strafing, and circling in Battle Mode, while drawing beads on enemy turrets. Your FPS/action game skills will shine here.
Aside from dodging a drone’s fire, you can also beat it to the punch.
Turret shots are worth more points than body shots, and destroy drone tanks in a single hit, so aim for turrets. Zooming in helps with aim, but the turret can swivel faster zoomed out, leaving you with superior maneuverability and wider visibility. If dexterity allows, stay in Battle Mode by holding L2/LT while zooming in and out by clicking Right Stick/R3 as necessary to keep up with the hostile force. Rattlers draw in from all sides, and the battlefield is relatively level, leading to the possibility of making hostiles destroy each other. If you can get the tanks to blast each other with friendly fire, it’s worth as much as a turret shot. Mix in Missile Barrage volleys when available on clusters of opportune targets. This Battle Mode combat challenge is all about keeping your multiplier going and not getting hit; if you want that WayneTech Upgrade Point for surpassing 11000 points, just restart the challenge if you get hit.
