The Batmobile

You can traverse from point to point in Gotham City as in Arkham titles before. Batman can mount rooftops and perches instantly grappling upward with the Grapnel, and fly by gliding and diving through the air using the Batsuit’s rigid, adaptive, aerodynamic cape. But, new to Arkham Knight, Batman can also shred the mean streets of Gotham in the rumbling Batmobile! The Batmobile is of course a powerful addition to Batman’s selection of gadgets, offering both speed and ground superiority in a rapidly escalating crisis. And since it can be driven remotely within a small radius around Batman, the Batmobile is crucial for puzzling out certain situations. A parked Batmobile can even provide Environment Takedowns in hand-to-hand combat with baddies nearby.

Having a Batmobile at your beck and call is as awesome as it sounds. You can summon the vehicle remotely, and board it smoothly from the ground or by swooping in from the air.

On top of its obvious uses in car and tank forms, the Batmobile is also crucial to solving many missions and puzzles.

Pursuit Mode

Batman must be in some ways scarier than the villains he pursues if he is to inspire fear in them, and this approach is certainly true for the Batmobile. This almost (but not quite) indestructible vehicle can be outfitted with a rocket Afterburner for flight-worthy landspeeds and has the handling to drift through turns like a rally car. One actually fuels the other; you generate extra Afterburner energy by drifting aggressively throughturns.

The Pursuit Mode Batmobile is durable enough to disable many enemy vehicles just by crashing into them. An onboard Immobilizer Gadget can also be used to non-lethally halt a fleeing vehicle. Pursuit Mode is capable of dispatching suspect cars and APCs, but does not hold up against military-grade assault vehicles. Thankfully, designer Lucius Fox built in the solution. When targeted in Pursuit Mode by something like a tank or gunship (or similarly stout attacker), an unmistakeable alarm warning sounds. This is your signal to either hightail it away using Pursuit Mode’s speed, or to transform into Battle Mode.

The defining trait of Pursuit Mode is speed, which comes here thanks to a Lucius Fox-designed rocket boost. The Batmobile speeds up airborne Batman too, since it can eject him directly into a high-speed glide.

When pursuing runaway vehicles, drift through turns to build up Afterburner power to keep speed up. Gain an Immobilizer Signal Lock and fire away (usually several times) to kill the engines of fleeing cars, or sideswipe them until they’re disabled.

Battle Mode

Simply through holding the left trigger, the Pursuit Mode Batmobile can be almost instantly reconfigured into a formidable and agile light tank. Think of holding the left trigger for tank mode like zooming in to aim in a typical first-person shooter. While Pursuit Mode is ideal for quickly crossing Gotham City and for chasing enemy vehicles, Battle Mode is perfect for exerting dominance over immediate surroundings.

The Batmobile in tank form comes equipped with non-lethal riot-suppression rounds for use against humans, and fully live ammunition for use against military-grade unmanned drones. The army of the Arkham Knight is largely mechanized, which means the gloves come off. Battle Mode is equipped with a 60MM Heavy Cannon for engagement with enemy armor, and a rapid-fire Vulcan Gun primarily intended to shoot down incoming missiles. The Bat-tank can also quickly jet across short distances in any direction thanks to Dodge Thrusters, ideal for dodging incoming enemy rounds at the last moment. Battle Mode’s advanced intelligence systems project the expected path of incoming tank rounds, giving you a chance to see exactly what space you need to immediately vacate. Battle Mode also features several vital Gadgets (not all initially available), from the Power Winch to the EMP to the Forensic Scanner Pulse, so it’s as useful to puzzles as to combat.

Enemy forces may have tons of drone tanks, but there’s nothing in their armory like the Battle Mode Batmobile.

The HUD populates useful ballistic information in Battle Mode, like missile lock-ons in progress and projected enemy fire vectors.
