With the stench of moist Hobbe blood still clinging to your clothes, make your way to Greatwood Lake. Southwest of the Lake lies Greatwood Gorge—your next destination. You want to go to there. As soon as you enter Greatwood Gorge, you’ll receive the Bandit Toll quest. To complete it, you have two options; either pay a hefty fee to pass through the Bandit camp or kill every last Bandit on the map—the latter proving both deeply satisfying for bloodthirsty Heroes and pleasantly rewarding for treasure hunters.
By all means, give the Bandit 400 Gold to pass over the bridge with the minimal fuss. However, if you want to save that money for something a little more useful, it’s time to get maiming. Ranged combatants can take the sniping approach if they so wish, using the various vantage points around the area to polish off a few enemies at time. However, the Bandits won’t put up too much of a fight, so merely charging in with your sword aloft should happily see you through.
Before you press onward, poke around the Bandit Leader’s tents for some pretty tasty loot. There’s a Flame Augmentation and 500 Gold to be found in the chests in the immediate vicinity, with a Steel Pickhammer stashed in the chest at the end of the narrow path leading south-west. Additionally, smash the barrels nearby for some potions, just waiting to be guzzled by a deserving Hero.
GREATWOOD GORGE DEMON DOOR
“This is the deal. You perform an act of great evil in my sight, and I’ll pop open.”
To the south, just before the exit to Greatwood Cullis Gate, lies another Demon Door. If your Hero happens to be completely Evil, you have no problem here—the door will simply swing open. Everyone else, however, must satisfy the door by performing Evil deeds (about 50 Evil-points-worth) in its presence. That equates to the wholesale slaughter of roughly four innocents (lured villagers or bodyguards) while it’s watching, or the gut-wrenching consumption of around 10 Crunchy Chicks, which you can buy from Twinblade’s Camp a little later in the game. Once open, you’ll gain access to the The Arboretum, containing the Legendary Wellow’s Pickhammer.
