Renown

Renown is a measure of your character’s fame or infamy across Albion and affects how townsfolk react to you on your travels. You can boost your Renown by:

• Completing quests
• Killing enemies
• Showing off Trophies
• Winning competitions
• Getting married

Classes

Your current Renown Level can be viewed on your Personality screen and affects your Class Pre-fix as it increases. You can see how that works in the table below.

Trophies

Trophies are earned at the end of most major quests (or by winning contests) and usually take the form of something squishy that fell off the last boss you fought. House-proud Heroes can display their Trophies around the home but they’re far better used to bolster your Renown.

Select a Trophy from your item menu while in a town and you’ll be given a set amount of time to flash it at as many people as possible. Provided it’s viewed by enough eyes, you’ll receive a Renown bonus for each person that saw it.

If you’re struggling to get enough people to stare at your gnarly edifice, use the following tips to turn that frown into Renown:

• Unsurprisingly, busy towns with expansive areas are the best places to get your Trophies out. Try the Heroes’ Guild early on or Knothole Glade later in the game.
• As day turns to night, Albion citizens start gathering in taverns. Needless to say, there’s no better time to pull out your plunder and whip the unwashed masses into a whooping frenzy.
• If you’re struggling to find enough townsfolk in one place, use the Follow Expression to bring individuals to a central gathering point. It’s time consuming, for sure, but eventually you’ll amass a heaving crowd of onlookers, just gagging to get their eyes on your prized possessions.

Turning Trophies Into Cash

If you’ve exhausted your Trophies’ Renown-giving properties, you don’t need to consign them to the attic just yet. Budding property magnates can squeeze a little cash from Trophies by displaying them on the walls of upgraded houses. Once you’ve placed all your Trophies on plaques, you’re able to rent—or sell—your home for a slightly better price than usual.

Alignment

As you do good and bad deeds throughout Albion, your Alignment—essentially a record of your moral fortitude—begins to shift from neutral (its starting state) toward Good or Evil. Alignment isn’t just a stat to be admired on your Personality screen though—it has a notable effect on your appearance, too.

Should you reach a state of true virtuousness, shafts of heavenly light will shine upon your be-haloed head as butterflies circle your doubtlessly smug face.

Thoroughly Evil characters, meanwhile, sprout horns, attract flies, and stomp around on plumes of blood-red smoke—kind of like a mobile disco from hell.

In case you’re wondering, killing enemies and helping people are considered Good deeds, while committing crimes and murdering innocents are not—look out for the angel-face and devil-face icons that pop up on-screen to indicate that you’ve done something naughty or nice. What’s more, many quests offer both Good and Evil outcomes, which can be discerned by reading their descriptions.

Your Title

In Fable, your title is the name you’re known by around the world—and the name Albion’s denizens refer to you by in casual conversation. You start the game as the rather less-than-glamorous Chicken Chaser but, thankfully, you can change your title by speaking to vendors at Lookout Point and the Witchwood Arena. Most titles are available from the off, although some unlock once you’ve performed specific tasks during your adventure, Arseface.
