There are two components to personal appearance—Attractiveness and Scariness—both of which can be adjusted by experimenting with different items of clothing, intimidating body tattoos, or even nicely coiffed hair.
Gaining a high Attractiveness rating results in catcalls throughout the land while a high Scariness value will elicit screams of terror. More importantly, Attractiveness and Scariness affect your desirability in the eyes of others—so, if you hope to hear wedding bells in your not-too-distant future, keep a watch on both.
Here are a few things to bear in mind when dressing to impress:
- Clothes are the largest contributor to Attractiveness, but it’s rarely the case that a decent battle outfit will equally suit an afternoon’s wooing. Keep an attractive “social” costume on hand for those moments when first impressions matter. Be warned, though: Albion’s townsfolk rarely swoon at a man in a dress, no matter how much you think it flatters your buttocks.
- As a general rule, tattoos raise your Scariness rating while lowering your Attractiveness. Thankfully, you can mitigate any adverse effects of fearsome body art by covering tattoos up with clothing.
- Your preferred style of hair, beard, and moustache can have a major impact on your personal appearance so don’t get that mop chopped too rashly.
- Your alignment won’t alter your Attractiveness, nor will your age or weight. Indeed, even the fattest, meanest Heroes can find admiration in Albion.
Ageing
You start your life of high adventure as a supple 18-year-old and age by precisely 0.7 years each time you level up a stat or spell. As in real life, time begins to take a visible toll around the mid-30s mark, with greying hairs and droopy skin growing more pronounced as you close in on the 65-year age limit. Thankfully, old age won’t affect your abilities or Attractiveness rating—you silver fox, you.
Weight
Gaining Weight
Continue to scoff down food when your Health gauge is full and it won’t be long before those washboard abs have vanished in a sea of blubber. Indeed, all it takes to go from Slim to Obese is 25 pies in a row, 27 hocks of red meat, 40 fish, or 100 beers. Obviously, don’t try this at home.
Losing Weight
Weight loss occurs naturally—with your journey from rotund to rakish taking approximately two hours, provided you don’t overeat in that time.
