Characters who don’t mind dipping into the darker side of the Alignment bar can indulge in a wide variety of criminal activities during their time in Albion. Some crimes reap financial rewards but most are merely a way of edging your Alignment just that little bit closer to Evil. Major cities and the Heroes’ Guild keep a police force on hand, ready to fine those caught in the act of mischief. However, you can commit Evil deeds with impunity in less civilised areas.
Standard Crimes
BRANDISHING A WEAPON FINE: 40 Gold
You’re able to draw your weapon in any town or city (with the exception of Bowerstone) but it’s considered an offence to do so. If a Guard catches you with your weapon out, you’ll be fined 40 Gold. However, that fine is waived if you sheathe it again quickly.
VANDALISM FINE: 250 Gold
Any act of wanton destruction—whether breaking a barrel or smashing through a locked door—is frowned upon in Albion. If you’re caught in the act, you can expect city Guards to levy a fine of 250 Gold.
BURGLARY FINE: 750 Gold
Burglary is only considered a moderately Evil deed in Albion and, given the potential for reward, even Good characters might want to dabble from time to time. Houses contain everything from armour and cash to hairstyle and tattoo cards—and it’s not as if their owners will miss much, right? Wait until a house is empty before attempting a break-in and watch the Detection Eye icon on your mini-map. If it’s open, you’re cruising for a fine; if it’s closed, you’re golden.
ASSAULT FINE: 500 Gold
It might be fun to punch the occasional stranger in the chops, but it’s still considered a criminal offence. If you’re caught playing fisticuffs, expect a fine of 500 Gold and little else, seeing as assaults serve no practical purpose in Albion.
MURDER FINE: 2,000 Gold
Murder is the most dastardly crime you can commit in Albion and has the steepest fine at 2,000 Gold—you’ll be kicked out of town for your shocking misdeeds too. Townsfolk carry little of value so there are few immediate rewards for murder, although some Traders drop moderately valuable items like gemstones later in the game. If you’re feeling particularly nefarious, though, you could off an entire town and buy up every house available—you property-hogging monster.
